Okay, most of us have played GTA rip offs. Some are good, and some suck, but most of them have some good ideas that were not incorporated into GTA games. Well, IMO R* has a fundamental right, and perhaps obligation to "steal back." What are the best features from other games that should be added to GTA IV?

One game that ripped of GTA big time, and shamelessly, was Saint's Row. It's a good game, but the degree of unoriginality of this game is truly staggering. Anyhow, I would love to see a few things from SR brought to the GTA series:

- "Ragdoll" physics. When I blow a guy away with a shotgun I love how he falls back. Also, when people are hit with cars, they flip around... very cool feature.

- Left trigger pistol whipping/rifle butting. I love pistol whipping with a handgun. That sick metalic *crunch* sound makes me giddy. I also derive a lot of satisfaction knocking a guy down to the ground with butt end of my shotgun before giving him a Dick Cheney moneyshot (shotgun blast to the face).

- Chop shop and hitman activities for money. There is a lot of room for improvement here from SR.

Other ideas from GTA ripoff games? What features should GTA IV incorporate?

I suppose they ripped that off The Getaway. But yeah, I'd like to pistol whip people in GTA, although brass knuckles kinda do the same thing already.

- I made a topic a while back about making phone calls in GTA. People mentioned that Saint's Row did this and any number found in the game worked when dialed. I'd like to see this used in GTA. I bet the humor would be quite good too for some of those numbers.

- I don't know if they're going to name the streets this time around, but I wouldn't mind seeing something similar to True Crime's street indicator used. If they do use it though, I'd like to see it be able to be turned off in the options.

If it uses Euphoric I would never want to see rag doll again.

Saints Row: I enjoyed the rewards from beating those accomplishments /\ Also I enjoy robbing the numerous stores during the day, and cracking the safes at night. And I love finding an Armored car driving down the road$$$$

Mercenaries: Being able to destroy virtually anything would be GREAT. Even though unlikely due to political reasons.

Just Cause: The huge map, even though all jungle, looks really good. But I also like the stunts you can pull off. Like jumping from car to car. Or jet to car. You get my point.

That's all I can think of right now.

You've been able to pistol whip people since III. There's just not a separate button for it. Unless that's what you both meant.

Personally, I'd like to see them steal the ladder climbing ability from Bully. Seriously, CJ and Tommy could both learn how to fly an Apache, but couldn't figure out a ladder? dontgetit.gif

And on the subject of climbing things, it would be nice if they incorporated vertical space into the gameplay more a la Crackdown. Sure, there was some climbable things in SA and VC, but for the most part buildings were just obstacles to drive around.

And, yes, I know Bully and Crackdown aren't ripoffs since the teams are or used to be connected to R*. But they're all sandbox-y, so, err, yea.

I would like to be able to grab civilians, enemies, and policemen and use them as hostages ala The Getaway. I would also like to be able to execute people in some form or another ala Manhunt.

Solid climbable fire escapes...

In Saint's Row you can smoke weed and drink alcohol. I've always wanted to see that in GTA. Also from SR, if a car has a passenger in it, and you hop in and steal it, you can press the Y button to start the Hostage Mission. You basically drive around with the terrified person until they give you their money. The store robberies are OK, they don't give you enough money though and it's always the same amount. I wanted character creation, but I think it's safe to say that isn't happening. A better fighting system, SR's is better than GTA's. A much larger selection of guns. Oh, and the "hitman" activity from SR was pretty tight too.

Nice. I agree, i reckon phone calls, whether it be on your mobile or on a pay phone, it'd be sick. Better way of doing some missions too!!

I'd definately love street names also.
I think if police, firefighter and ambo radio is real time, and what is said on the radio is actually happening, then id love to be able to find the street using the pause menu street directory.

I like the way things are shown the HUD in saints row as it marks out the route for you and you don't end up going down the wrong road.

I've never played, but if it shows you the exact route, i think that would sorta take away some of the freedom, i mean , i imagine you can go anyway, but most would feel the need to follow it, i dunno, i don't liek the idea.

When I have played Saint's Row, I have found it to be quite handy.

On street names, that is an excellent call, I would love to see that. The only street name that I know of in any GTA is in Vice City where the street name that the Hospital in Downtown is on is written on the sign.

i would love to see a subway system just like in True Crime: New York.
yes, the game is sh*t, but i loved the idea of using a subway to get from one place to another, makes it really easy.

GTA: vice city isnt a rip-off of coarse but i would love to see the taxi pick u up when u fail a mission just like in vice city, i thought that was good.

Also in True Crime: New York i loved the way u could go inside practically every hotel and shop u could find.

I want to see blood stains and stuff like in the getaway. But not staggering around and crap. so annoying for a game like GTA!

I've always loved the Film Director in Driver games. Didn't they cut it from Driver 4 though? Never played it.

Anyway, it'd be nearly impossible to implement, but it would be brilliant to make a reply of your chases with police, topped off with shoot-outs, etc.

Brilliant. But like I said, it'd be hard to add without taking away from the GTA feel.

How did that work in the Driver games?

The Godfather had plenty of nice features.
Guns were awesome - gun dealers and stuff like that, not pickups dozingoff.gif ; bank robberies were really nicely done, and the whole taking over shops and warehouses was very good, too.

Driv3r just plain sucked, didn't like it confused.gif (well yeah that film director thing was good, but there was pretty much nothing to use it with)

Otherwise...I haven't played Saints' Row, and I've only tried a demo of Just Cause (it was fun, not much to do though).

Well, Mafia...I can't bring myself to call it a ripoff, because it was better than GTA in most ways. Just classic.

The Godfather had awesome melee and blackmail skills. I'd love to see something like that GTA-ified.

I think GTA IV need to take a good look at SR and think they have some wicked ideas. I thought SR was nearly as good as SA.

Ideas in SR that i want in GTA IV:
1) Be able to buy jewlerry
2) Spinners on rims
3) Be able to buy cars
4) Most activites but they could extend onto this like:
a) Chop Shop - Have alot more cars and for the rarer cars have a reward of about £10,000 and also after you got every car from each chop shop list you should get a new car that only you own.
b) Hitman - Have alot more hitman activities and after you have killed all the people on each list you should get a new weapon that only you own.
c) Racing - Have more races and longer races on th feeways (so its just pure speed beig tested) and after you have completed all races on each list you should get a new sports car that only you own.
5) I think they should add strongholds in, instead of just shooting random rival gangs on the street.
6) Hold up the stores at daytime, so the alarms don't go off
7) Rob the stores at nightime and open the safe but the alarms go off
8) Hostage like you steal a car and if more peds are in the car you take them hostage.
9) Be able to have "homies" that you call and they come in their own cars.

Thats all i can think of for now.

The car crashes of Driver: Parallel Lines, with the damage system of Destruction Derby

Film director replays of the last 10 minutes of gameplay of Driver 3, or being able to start and stop "the filming" before you do something cool, and then editing the replay and saving it. With online capabilities you could even send your movies to other people who have the game, and they could watch it in the actual game engine, rather than a blurry youtube video

The gore of SOF2

The scenery destruction and physics of Max Payne 2, along with slo-mo

The climbing of Tomb Raider... 5 are we up to?

The scenery destruction while driving of Runabout 2 (3, while set in NYC, was sh*t!)

The map size of Just Cause

The insane vehicle-jumping stunts of Pursuit Force

The car modifying of Midnight Club 3

The powerful storyline of The Getaway

OK most of those arent actually GTA Clones, but put all that together in a GTA world and you'd have the perfect game. Especially if you can also MMO it (though also do it single player too, of course)

Yeah, I would want the Satnav feature from Saints row, and the ability to take drugs and alcohol with added buffs from each.

ya all of that stuff but i would also say all of the customizations that u can do to th cars was awesome...as well as the color scheme...just needs to be able to upgrade the engine.
As well as the damage to the vehicles were awesome and if u ran someone over, u could drive over the dead body and it would act like a bump as if it were still there not like in SA where it seems like u're still driving on the road meanwhile u could see that u're driving over someone...

from the game MAFIA: i LOVED how if the gas tank got shot, u would see the gas meter just drop slowly but still gave u that "Oh Crap!" feeling. Also the way that you got into the vehicles...actually had to break into them...

Crackdown: the only thing from this game is the way that u have the option of being able to shoot the gas tank...

yea, so many good ideas can be taken from SR. that game was really quite impressive interms of coming up with so similair to GTA, yet still incorperated many new features.

my#1 thing that GTA should take from SR is the wanted level, the way its a bar and if the bar reaches thetop, you get a star.

also, a wanted level from gangs is a great idea.

Scarface: The ability to bring down your heat/wanted level buy paying off cops from the menu.

Ragdoll physics, because it's way overdue in gta !!!

Scarface: Access to your weapons locker from the trunk of your car.

Yakuza: The level of interactions and side missions that can be done with NPCs. I know it's kinda pointless but it was still cool...

Scarface: A driver who can deliever a car or boat of your choice to you anyware anytime !!!

re: Pistol whipping. Don't yoiu pistol whip in SA? When you point a duel-wielding-capable gun (your skills don't have to be high enough able to duel wield it) at a ped and stand right next to them and press the "fire" button, CJ hits them with the bottom of the handle.
