but that would mean, they showed us just everything around the time square.
that cant be all...

I think that is very possible. (not only times square of course. remember the coaster and the brownstep houses in brooklyn, docks, etc.) Manhattan was probably the first island constructed, as it would take the most time, so it probably looks the best at this stage of development.

The fatter lines are the big main roads with the thinner lines street roads etc.

Bascially i concentrated round the area's we know, e.g brooklyn, queens, manahttan, bronx, new jersey. so it may look small.

It looks good, but it's not dense enough. Another level of lines representing streets would be good. Highway, Avenues, Streets.

So I've been hearing this quantified map size of 25% less than the area of San Andreas.

I want to know how people got this number?

Correct me if I'm wrong (I know you will), but somehow, after the May GI was out, people interpreted:
QUOTE
Within Grand Theft Auto IV, Rockstar North has recreated four of the five boroughs that make up New York City, as well as a section of New Jersey. It's a smaller geographical mass than San Andreas , but not an inch of this world is wasted or dedicated to vast stretches of country or desert.

to mean about 3/4 the size of San Andreas. While no one can prove or disprove anything, it was agreed upon as being close enough to accept, so we arrive at 25% less.

According to GI though, It'll only be NJ and the 4 boroughs excluding Staten Island (that little island you see in the left corner). Staten Island (which is also my homeborough) is always left out of any NYC game... cryani.gif

The article refers to a smaller geographical mass than San Andreas but later refers to the "scale" of the game being about the same as San Andreas. I maintain that this means the map will be as big as San Andreas and that geographical mass refers to the scope of the game being a city instead of a state. Including potential subterranean and interior space, a smaller map can include more accessible area than San Andreas.

That new what-if map is awesome, except for mixing the name New York with the game's borough names.

That makes no sense... the same logic could give you 20% less, 15% less, 10% less, etc...

Right, but 25 was the number. Argue it, it doesn't matter. Nobody knows except Rockstar.

I just hope there is at least a little area where you can get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and relax or do a bit of offroading. I'm really missing that in Saints Row at the moment.

The World Trade Centre was no where near St Patricks Cathedral, so I doubt it.
