I got away with playing 'Christmas in Hollis' during the Christmas meal today. This year officially won.

It's always really annoying at gatherings because I feel like no one ever wants to listen to rap music. It always has to be something 'safe' that the majority of people there are guaranteed to enjoy. I get the logic in that, but variation, man. If I played a good Nas track after grimacing through 3 1D songs, people would just shuffle their feet.

But yeah as it's your thing, play your music.

Ah yeah I'd play some other music too. I like a good few different genres. And rap is so different these days. But Im just not interested in playing the charts for people. I get you though, I didn't think of that before.

Is it just Ireland, or is their like no Rap fans in Western Europe, bar France maybe?

Nice one! Sounds like that was a wicked night (Invite for the next one, please  :p  ).  How did you get away with smashing your neighbour's window?

Yeah Coachella! Seeing the Outkast reunion sounds like a memory worth investing the money in.  I can't believe we're coming into the 11th year since Speakerboxx/The Love Below. My Mum even bought that freakin' album, by her own admiittion for the smooth as hell Andre side. That's how I was introduced to them.

I know I'm skipping Idlewild, but doesn't everyone do that?

Ah I had to pay, that means I haven't been getting my Bags lately but he gave me some good advice on keeping nut-cases out of parties and what not. He also gave me a local rappers album, he's too cool. Someday I hope to buy a huge house and just use it for parties :p

Yeah I really haven't listened too much to idlewild, although Im a newish fan of Outkast as in I only started listening in the last year or two. Unfortunately it seems like I'll never go Coachella really, I am going reading but their hasn't been any rappers on the line up yet. If not i'll probably save up for Oxygen. Im living for summer at the moment ha ha.

I've been in the golden age of hip-hop mind state lately. Just been listening to the likes of Kool G Rap, EPMD, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane etc.

And last week I really got into Big Pun. I've always been a fan of Pun but not like how I am with 2Pac, Biggie, Big L, Nas, Cube and Jay etc.

I thought I'd share some of my favourite beats by Mouse Outfit.  Definitely worth checking out.

So much energy in this performance from Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar. By the sounds of things this was the Grammy highlight, followed by Pharrell's hat.

And god damn, Kendrick got f*cking snubbed. The Heist is a decent album, but eeeh... I honestly think GKMC is genuinely a better album. He needs to go hug it out with Nas. Nas knows what it's like.

But that performance. Wheeew!

Bingo. The Heist is still a brilliant album IMO, and Mack' is severely underrated, but GKMC is a sheer masterpiece, and that's coming from a "Hipster music" (Indie Rock, Electrosynth, Newwave etc) fan :p

Macklemore's album is so bad in my personal opinion but I get why people like him, I get why people like his album, I agree with a lot of his ideas, but his music is just not for me and I just find him very corny.

Maybe the only album he deserved best new rap album over was Jay-Z's album. But ya Kdot shoulda won best rap album.

That new Schoolboy Q song is cool but I realllly hate how he sounds like some Linkin Park sh*t on the hook. Q still my fav out right now tho,got high hopes for Oxymoron.

Bout to check out Lord Steppington by Evidence and Alchemist and then Isaiah Rashad's new sh*t.

Couldn't agree more about Macklmore.  Just about all of his fame and acclaim seems to be a direct result of him just simping on all of these politically correct ideas and reaping the rewards because we all know how political showbiz is.  He takes no risks with his art.  I didn't see the Grammys as usual; but after my roommate read the award results, I realized that I didn't miss sh*t (no awards for A$AP, Kendrick's good songs, Schoolboy Q, Joey Bada$$, etc.).  Even choosing from mainstream artists only, the Grammys managed to completely miss the real talent.  Do these degenerates even listen to rap?

The entertainment media industry is getting offensively out of touch with hip hop and rap (quality music in general).  I agree with Macklemore's progressive social views; but it seems like one big moral circle jerk as the much more insidious injustices that unfold in the hood everyday are pushed aside when it comes the record company's political agenda.  Instead they honor the artists who push dumbed down moral no-brainers like gender equality and anti-consumerism (even though he and his record company directly profit from America's mindless consumerism?).  It sounds like sheltered suburban high school summer camp rap tbh.

Kendrick Lamar's overrated, and I'll tell you why. His songs make you think his music is so deep and insightful, but if you actually listen to the lyrics, you wouldn't be able to tell what message he's trying to get a cross. In "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe," he talks about fame, fake friends, and sins all at the same time, and the thoughts he spills out in it have nothing to do with each other.

With that being said, I'd still rather listen to him as opposed to Lil Wayne or 2 Chainz.
