Aye. Speaking of new axe, I think I might get this tomorrow

DV016_Jpg_Large_1367516483363_A.jpg

Semi-hollow ES-139. Best description: "..a Les Paul-shaped 335 without f-holes". Poly finish, Burstbucker pickups(I could go into detail on why these kick ass) and some gorgeous wood.

cons: It costs 1521 €  :panic: time to bust out the ol' credit card.

That's a bit pricey, but damn, it is beautiful! Great purchase, bro! I'm still on the fence about whether to go to the store tomorrow or not. I just feel so lazy... :/

I don't think I ever posted a close up on the LSR nut on the LP.
I have dubbed it the Fibson Lestocaster lol

Now for some tone chasing...

(Guitar solo starts at around 2:20)

need to have Robben Ford's tone on this tune. This was released in 1981, I.E. pre-Dumble(he got his in 1983) and therefore feasible to us mere mortals. A guy I know used to see Robben live in the late 70s when he was trying out stuff that would later become "Yellowjackets" material told me that at the time, Robben was using a Gibson 335 on a Yamaha G112. What he used in the studio, though, remains a mystery. I just adore the guitar tone on this album.

The ES-139 has Burstbucker pickups, which are pretty much the same as Classic 57(ES-335, ES-175 etc)'s, though not quite. As production has been modernized, Gibson has managed to standardize the Classic 57 pickups which are built precisely as specified by Seth Lover, who invented humbuckers. This wasn't the case in the 60s and such, as technology didn't allow for consistent production. They tried to, of course, but they simply couldn't make them exactly like they "should" be. The Burstbucker is true to the latter mentioned variety of the PAF pickups, I.E. slightly unbalanced etc. This should make the tone more "classic", and I dare say this sounds rather like Carlton's 335.

My technician agreed with that notion, stating that his 335 was obsolete to this guitar, and that the 335's of today simply do not stand out in sound.

How is the Yngwie Strat? I've never seen or played one.

The setup on my new Gibson is, as to be expected now, awful. The neck curves the wrong way but because Gibsons are a bit stupid, I can't really do anything about it. It's practically unplayable, fret buzz all the way up to the 10th.
