I decided to keep them out of the desk area since it would take up too much space. That left one option, putting the bookshelf speakers on the bookshelf. Their distance doesn't bother me personally. And if you look at the height of them compared to the seat (which can be raised itself), they are exactly ear height. The cables have slack in them and I can pull out and angle the speakers if I wanted, though I prefer it aesthetically aiming straight ahead. A shelf below would have been too low, a shelf above would have been to high. I'd say my placement is as ideal as it gets. But of course this all becomes totally irrelevant when I use headphones.

May not look like much but she puts up with very long hours of work abuse, gaming shenanigans and whatever else I throw at her on a daily basis. Reliable as f*ck  :beerhat:

i have the windows 10 background. it may be the default background but it looks nice.
i also have a DS3 controller. it still works nicely.
D1KS7vi.jpg

i just installed the cooler master hyper evo led. i am very pleased with my temps.
ogShQqm.jpg

why did i buy a third party cooler for a stock i5? because the intel stock cooler is a bit noisy. anyway i am pleased with the silence, and very pleased with how cool it is (literally)

also i installed a new wifi card because i've been having problems with my usb adapter. finally, i can play battlefield and CSGO lag-free again.

Welcome to the Master Race.

I am planning to buy a new (160mm wide) desk to fit a larger 4K monitor and some studio monitors\speakers. I will post some pics in February with my new set-up. I look forward to working on a new build towards summer or the end of the year depending on the specs.

Rig finally somewhat done complete with zip tied fans on the GPU.

HsZbAvV.jpg

Intel Xeon X5650 @4.4Ghz, Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 3GB, Gigabyte GA-X58-UD5 Rev1, 12GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz, Corsair H50 AIO, 64GB Sandisk SSD/500GB Seagate Drive, Enermax Liberty 500w Semi Modular in a CoolerMaster 690 II case. Xigmatek XLF fans in Push/Pull on the H50, NZXT fans on the GPU and CM/Corsair fans as intake and exhaust all wired to a Zalman ZM-MFC1 fan controller.

I2RKPYG.jpg

aaMX353.jpg

Dell P2312Ht Monitor, Fujitsu S26381-K297-V165, Intellimouse 1.1A and an OG Kustom PC's mousepad, and some sh*tty Logitech Speakers/Turtle Beach headset (yeah they're on the upgrade list). Hitatchi 48inch LED TV and two 360s; one the 360 Slim E which is stock and I use for playing proper games, movies, etc and the second is a classic elite JTAG modded so I can just dl games and stick them on the drive; all those connected to an Edimax ES-3124RL switch.

Hardware wise I'm pretty solid apart from wanting to swap the H50 fans out with SP120's, swap case fans with some quieter ones and some bigger drives I'm happy. Really need a new TV stand/desk though, definitely not enough space plus the fact the TV stand fascia popped off and my PC is currently stood on my old NZXT case :p Hoping I can find a solid desk that reaches from one side of the wall to the other and just stick cable baskets underneath the desktop to hide everything.

just out of curiosity, why did you zip tied fans on the Gpu? the ones that came with the gpu broke or were temps that bad?

Yeah one of the fans on the 7950 wouldnt spin up unless I ramped it to 100% in msi afterburner, seemed to be a common thing with the Dual-X fans/heatsink shroud so I just took it off and zip tied two NZXT fans on there. Temps are somewhat better than the stock cooler and also way more quiet.

Rummaging through old hard drives and came across this. Throwback to 2006 (ish). Back when ribbed tubing was the extent of my sleeving capability. Fan controller didn't even work. Not because it was broken. I was just too lazy to connect fans to it.  But hey, at least the knobs still lit up.

Edit: Never mind. Mounting the monitor on a wall is not an option since studio speakers need to be away from the wall which adds up to too much distance.

Received and assembled (by myself) new IKEA desk. It took me about 3 hours but it was kinda fun to do it. Build quality of the materials is excellent for the price.

I think I am going to get this 4K DELL monitor this year. There was a Philips one that seemed decent but judging by several reviews there are some problems with it. This one's a professional monitor and the price is about $1100 but I think it will be worth the price in the end. I really want a large 4K monitor.

I wish i was clever enough to be able to watercool a build. It looks so epic  :^:

My build hasn't really changed much since I last posted, added a few more fans and filled all the RAM slots, bringing it up to 32gb.

Installed a bottom mounted White LED Corsair AF120 Quiet Edition (all the fans are this model) and added another to the front of the radiator.

So the bottom fan and the one behind the front panel are bringing the air in, the top 2 are exhausting it, and the fan/radiator sandwich is push/pull as well.

I asked about and this was the most recommended fan set up, so I went with it and it has had absolutely no problems.

(It has been well over a year since I took her apart for some cleaning, so you can see the heavy layer of dust and sh*t behind the radiator fan, which I really need to sort)

Fixed the original fan shroud/heatsink - the original problem was that one of fans wouldn't spin up unless it was at 100% on afterburner which was WAY too loud, but running the card with two 120mms would occasionally crash as putting the side panel on meant way less airflow and thus presumably the VRM's overheating. The fan wires from the card are two separate cables connected by a splitter then powered from the card so I removed all the splitter sh*te, cut the wires so it was just the fan power, stripped the ends then teisted the reds from both together and the blacks from both together then chopped an old 3 pin fan cable off, cut the extra wire off and connected the fans up to the 3 pin header and its running fine. Admittedly it is a little loud for my liking even at 5v on the fan controller so I'm wondering is there a way to control the speed of a 3 pin fan in relation to GPU temp through software? I know 3pins are only controlled through voltage but I've slowed 3pin fans with Speedfan before but setting up a curve would be nice.

4.4GHz wasn't as stable as I'd hoped so I scaled it back to 4.0GHz, I could probably do 4.2 but trying to keep memory speed up at that point is annoying plus [email protected] is somewhat cool.

Linux has been my go to. most used and loved OS for years. it's safe and reliable on a 2001 Intel Mobo, P4/ 2Gb DDR1 old computer where this was hardly reinstalled.

The draw to an OS for me is the ability to customize it, but MS has dropped the ball when it came to windows 8.1 and windows 10.

A wrecking ball comes to mind when I have to replace HDs on wins10. Can't MS make the /temp folder auto delete as this would solve a lot of problems other then caching every file you install and use.

install screenfetch and then you can automatically do desktop shots from terminal and upload to a choice of hosts, I think the command I used was screenfetch -su hmp.

Edit: try to take the Cpu 8pins behind the motherboard, thru the other lateral opening, i dont know about that case, but usually they have an opening on top to get the cable thru there
