I like Overkill.. My favorite album;'s The Years of Decay....

Yeah, it's sick. That's my favourite too.

Has anyone hear heard The Amity Affliction? They're probably one of the few decent metalcore bands that exist. I probably wouldn't listen to them, but I knew the guy who used to drum for them.
But I'm going to their concert in a few weeks cause my mates band is playing with them. So that'll probably be a pretty rad weekend cause that's like 3 days after the Dragonforce concert icon14.gif

Anyone going to Slayer when they come to Australia? They're playing at an outdoor venue in my city so me and some mates are gonna rock up and just stand outside it cause you can hear everything anyway.
I wouldn't fork out $98 for any band. Especially Slayer, they're overrated!

I've been listening to a fair bit of Darkane recently. Fans?

Hopefully you're going there to see a band supporting them, or to throw stuff at Herman Li.

The Melvins are not completely metal, but a lot of their material definitely falls under the genre. Their early works such as Gluey Porch Treatments and Ozma have a great stoner/doom feel with a bit of punk and some of the earliest examples of what would become grunge.

lolz, self promotion. We added a new song.

Oh man, thats epic. inlove.gif You're so added. Have you guys recorded anything else?

We've got some more material, but just nothing recorded or figured out completely. Once we get a drummer, I'll use a better means of recording (that was all recorded straight onto our guitarist's computer through garageband). I'm glad you guys like it! biggrin.gif

Nice. So you weren't going for that type of production on the song? It sounded totally grim and everything but I wish I could of heard the instruments a bit more.

And I was wondering why the drums on the song sounded like a sample. Other than that though I loved it. It sounded like a mix between Ahab, Burzum, Sleep and Windir to me.

Haha, yeah, the production is definitely unintentional. We're definitely going to be doing diy recording, but I've got a nice digital 8 track we're going to use once we get things down.

I've been getting into a little doom metal lately. Suffice to say, it's easily becoming one of my favorite bits of the "metal" genre.

I've been on a huge Crossover Thrash kick, as well as Proto-Deathrash.

More specifically, D.R.I. "4 of a Kind" and "Thrash Zone",

Sadus "Swallowed in Black",

Death "Scream Bloody Gore" and I also recently got back into "Leprosy" even though "Scream Bloody Gore" is such a better record.

Also, as always, Whiplash "Power and Pain", and "Ticket to Mayhem".

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention MUNICIPAL WASTE!!... "Hazardous Mutation" to be precise. biggrin.gif

What bands have you checked out?

I should be able to give some good recommendations.

Whats the real big difference between stoner and doom if there is any and could you recommend me some from both genres. So far I've gotten into bands like Sleep, Ahab, Candlemass and recently Electric Wizard.

And speaking of Electric Wizard.....

Funeral:
Bloody Panda - Pheromone (Funeral doom and almost psychedelic female vocals, awesome.)
Comatose Vigil - Not A Gleam Of Hope
Shapes of Despair - Angels Of Distress

Death Doom:
Black Forest - Sadness (Amazing demo from a Russian band who never got anywhere)
Thorr's Hammer - Dommedagsnatt (This is essential.)
Rapture - Futile (For the more... traditional death/doom. Amazing band and album)

Traditionalish:
Lamented Souls - The Origins Of Misery (Vortex's doom band.)

Sludge:
The Other Side of the Sky - Rorschach
Isis (everything)

Stoner:
Boris - Pink (Essential)

Not metal, but still awesome.
Clutch are amazing, probably better than most metal bands.

To add onto what Trows recommended, Burning Saviours is a great (what I would consider traditional) doom metal band. Their 2006 album Hindus was easily one of my favorite last year. Also, Reverend Bizarre is great heavy/slow traditional doom much like Sabbath at times.

Another sludge band that I really like is The Ocean. They can be pretty orchestral at times, but it's the real deal - not like cheesy synths or anything like that. Anyways, they're a lot like Isis and related bands and if you like them, you'd more than likely like The Ocean as well.

Oh, and Witchcraft from Sweden plays great traditional doom/classic rock that reminds me a lot of Sabbath and Zeppelin at times. And I'm trying to think of more stoner doom stuff like Electric Wizard or Sleep, but I can't really. Well, besides Melvins, Kyuss, and Orange Goblin.. I suppose they could be considered stoner rock/doom. Good bands anyways.

Also, I agree about Dopethrone.. f*cking great album. Production is just perfect.

Shadows Fall is good at combining a lot of different techniques in Metal and really making a good, all-around fleshed-out sound. Not a bad listen for the casual Metal and Hard Rock fan. I do enjoy them on occasion but I do not hail them as a favorite. They're a good "other" band to listen to.

So I got Whiplash Insult To Injury in the mail yesterday.

The first listen around, it's really hard to get used to the new vocalist. It feels like the music was specifically written for his clean style vocals, so the album almost sounds a bit "proper", if you will. When Tony Portaro was doing vocal duty, it seemed the music was written for his voice, therefore, it had a gritty, raw and fast feel to it. Also, it probably doesn't help that the vocalist sounds more like a Classic Rock vocalist rather than a Heavy Metal vocalist.
