The Chain Game is for anyone who wants to play along, we are going to start a game from the beginning and take it to 100%. Please read the Rules/Guidelines before you start to play.
The Rules/Guidelines are here so that the game can progress and everyone can have an enjoyable experience while making a contribution to its completion.

Just like the last round, we are going to start this chain game with a special save provided by pdescobar. He has added still more new vehicles & some new pickup spawns! The spawns will persist from save to save. He has also made a lot of things available in the beginning that usually aren’t available until later in the game. Additionally, “And, finally, the six clothes shops, three barber shops, and the LS tattoo parlor are accessible from the start although they won't show on the radar until the missions that normally unlock them.” –PD.

It should also be noted that there are 3 “extra” special vehicles on top of Mt. Chiliad! wink.gif

Here's pdescobar's map for the new extra vehicles & pickup items:
Orange represents extra vehicles from the previous rounds.
Yellow represents new or moved extra vehicles.
Pink represents the new pickups.

Rules/Guidelines:
  • Call the mission that you want to do or just call a turn by posting in the topic.
  • The definition of a "mission" is "any named mission". Examples are "In the Beginning" "Learning to Fly" and "Big Smoke". If the save file name changes, then it's a "named mission".
  • Download the previously posted save file. We want to use the same save file throughout the game and take it to 100%. After 100%, we can see who has the fastest racing times.
  • Use the posting format (see below for the format).
  • Complete ONE named mission only, save it and post a link back in the topic (use edit).
  • Use Samutz, Rapidshare or YouSendit to upload.
  • Wait until 4 other turns have been completed before calling another mission.
  • If 12 hours pass without another gamer calling a mission, then the 4 mission rule is reset & anyone may call a turn. This does NOT mean to wait 12 hours between personal mission/turn calls.
  • Time limit to complete the mission is 3 hours. We will use the post time in the topic. The timer starts when a mission is called. After 3 hours and the caller has not posted, it's a forfeit and anyone else may call a mission.
  • The caller may call a forfeit. The forfeiter should wait at least one turn before calling another mission/turn. The forfeited turn will not count towards the '4-mission' rule.
  • In the event of two gamers calling a mission the first one does the called mission.
  • Mission strategy is up to the caller - just don't use cheats/trainers.
  • The caller may purchase/collect items (weapons, etc.), eat, dress, date, get a tattoo, workout & get a haircut for CJ.
  • The caller may do any non-named missions/collections/deliveries in the 3 hours. Please report any extra stuff in the Notes section.
  • The caller doesn't have to call a mission when all they want to do for example is collect/do 25 tags, or do the Vigilante mission. In that case, just call a turn, but remember that the 3 hour time limit will still apply.

    Suggestions:
  • Do not save after getting busted or wasted.
  • Do not fail a mission unless it's to collect a special vehicle (BP/DP/EP/FP). If a special vehicle has been collected, let us know in the Notes section.
  • Try to keep the safe house saves minimal.
  • Avoid known glitch situations - taxi, and basketball for example (in other words do NOT save at Madd Dogg's mansion), though you may use the Ammu-Nation glitch, and the one for "NRG-500".
  • Try to save with full armor.
  • Collect ammo when possible.
  • Save close to available missions when possible.
  • Let’s try to have the last save for 100% be ‘End of the Line”, so let’s try to get everything else done before that.
  • Have FUN!
Maps for Collectibles:
For those who would like to spray tags/collect oysters/take snapshots/gather horseshoes, you can find the program for SAMA here, it will provide relevant maps showing which ones are left.

Here is the posting format to use:
Mission: Use the mission name as it appears on the screen. Don't use mission descriptions like 'that mission where you chase the jet'
Called by: Use your handle.
Link:
Status: 'in progress' or 'completed'.
Notes: anything pertinent to the mission/strategy or extra stuff done.
Completion %: from stats section

Supplement to the rules of the Chain Game (V 1.0 and V 2.0) --- by crazyanurag & JAJ

This supplement is designed to discuss some of the technicalities of the Chain Game's rules, and it was thought best to provide these in the original post.

(1) Abuse of the '4-mission' rule:

Callers are encouraged to understand the basic ethos of the Chain Game. One should only call a mission, once the previous caller has completed his/her called mission and posted the new save. That's the basic idea of the chain: a new link can only be attached as long as the previous one is bound. Hence, to call a mission while a previous one is being completed, defeats the entire logic of the chain. In such a case, one can actually wait around and call every 5th mission beforehand, and negate the possibility of others to call the mission. This seems to be a fine loophole of the 4-mission rule, which callers should not exploit. Let's also consider the fact that when a mission/turn is called that the 3 hour timer has started.

(2) Exceptions to the 'One Named Mission' rule:

•"First Date"
•"First Base"
•"Gone Courting"
•"Made in Heaven"

The above missions are all cut scenes in the Catalina strand in the Badlands. The icons for her missions trigger each of these, in sequence, though it is up to the caller to decide which of Catalina's jobs they'd want to pull off. In each such case, the caller should call the cut scene (like "First date") and also the job (e.g.: "Local Liquor Store"). The format should be: Missions: First Date/Local Liquor Store. The caller can't help but do a 'double', so to say, as one can't save after the cut scenes, and in these cases the 'one named mission' rule is exempted.

•"Back to School"
•"Learning to Fly"
•"Boat School"
•"Bike School"

The above vehicular schools are comprised of 'named' tests (e.g.: "Burn and Lap", "Circle the Airstrip", "Land, Sea, and Air", "Stoppie" etc.). Callers should take note that 'named' tests are not equivalent to 'named missions'. Hence, callers should call schools and not particular tests, even though it may seem, for some, to be against the 'one named mission' rule. To call and do one single test, or only a set of two/three tests, would only add confusion to future callers, and be an impediment to the progress of the Chain Game. Callers also note: in the posting format, you should use "Back to School" and "Learning to Fly" and not 'Driving School' and 'Flying School'.

• The 'CV' icon at Wang Auto after "Back to School" and "Yay Ka Boom Boom" are completed

This one's a little different from the first four, as even though an icon appears for Cesar on the map, and you go to the dealership at Doherty, it is not followed by a mission, and instead opens up Cesar's strand at San Fierro. This is different, also, from "Verdant Meadows" because even though the mechanic involved is the same, the latter is a named mission, while this is not. Callers may buy Wang Auto after the completion of "Back to School" or "Yay Ka Boom Boom" (whichever is done later), and this will not be considered as a violation of the 'one named mission' rule. Alternatively, callers may buy it before starting "Zeroing In", if it wasn't purchased beforehand.

(3) Missions not exempt from the 'One Named Mission' rule:

• "Verdant Meadows", as mentioned above
• "Fish in a Barrel"

All of the above are cut scenes, but can be saved after, and so they pass as 'named missions'. It might seem unfair to callers, and it is, but a rule's a rule. We are trying to adhere as strictly to the first draft of rules as possible. Callers are advised that it is best to call these missions and go on a round of collections/unique jumps/deliveries etc. Hence, one should call these instead of only calling, for e.g., "Horseshoes", and speed up the progress of the game.

• Los Santos Race Tournaments
• San Fierro Race Tournaments
• Las Venturas Race Tournaments (Cars)
• Las Venturas Racing Tournaments (Aircraft)

Though it may seem logical to call for all races at one particular place, the races are not the same as the 'named tests' at the schools. Here, each would count as a separate 'named mission' like "Vinewood", "Bandito County", and "Dam Rider", "Barnstorming" etc. The posting format for these would be: Mission: Los Santos Race Tournaments: Vinewood.

(4) Non-storyline missions which alter the save names:

• BMX
• NRG-500
• 8-Track
• Dirt Track
• Race Tournaments
• Zero's Missions
• Cesar's Missions in San Fierro
• Heist Missions in Las Venturas

(5) Other things to keep in mind:

Dating : All callers can help CJ progress with any of the 6 girlfriends in the game. It does not have to be called separately, and if it is, then the '3 hour' rule will apply as always. It is best not to alter CJ physically and instead collect all oysters as soon as possible to make him forever desirable.

Import/Export : All callers are allowed to participate in exporting cars, and this does not have to be called separately. Callers, however, must remain true to the spirit of the Chain Game and only export cars when full earnings can be availed. Do not export damaged cars. Callers can also help by storing cars on the lists beforehand as and when they come across these. The Cheetah and the Huntley are probably best to stock up early.

Turf Wars/Gang Wars : These can be separately called for, and also be completed otherwise. The second round of wars in Los Santos should be completed before "Riot", as this saves a lot of trouble and makes the last few missions speedier. The posting format for these would be: Mission: Gang Wars. Callers should, at all costs, avoid any sort of 'territory glitch'.

Have fun playing!

Here's pdescobar's map & list for the new extra vehicles & pickup items:
Orange represents extra vehicles from the previous rounds.
Yellow represents new or moved extra vehicles.
Pink represents the new pickups.

user posted image

Vehicles:
All the previous extra vehicles remain except for the following changes:
  • The bike at the CRASH donut shop was changed from a BF400 to an HPV1000 because it fits better.
  • The Dinghy that used to be in Marina was moved down near the beach safe house.
  • The bike at Catalina's cabin was changed from a Quad to a Sanchez because quads suck. wink.gif
  • The plane in Angel Pine was changed from a Cropduster to a Stuntplane because there's already two cropdusters and there was only the school reward stuntplane
The following original game vehicles have been changed:
  • The Journey & Camper on top of Mt Chiliad were moved to the parking lot near the bottom of it
  • The Area 69 Hydras and Rhinos are available at the start
  • The Easter Basin Hunter and Hydra are available at the start
  • The LS and SF air vehicles that used to be enabled after flight school are available at the start
  • The SF airport vehicles that used to be locked until flight school are now unlocked from the start
  • The SF Gym Banshee and Burger Shot Bullet that used to be enabled after driving school are available at the start
  • The combines are available at the start and hopefully only have 10% lock chance instead of 100%
  • All the Karts and Vortexes which used to be enabled after Cut Throat Business are available at the start
Additionally, there are some new extra vehicles added:
  • A Barracks and Patriot were added to the Green Mesa at the Robbing Uncle SAM depot
  • A BF400 was added near the Atrium parking garage exit
  • A busted-up Glendale was added to Smoke's driveway, colored like his mission glendale.
  • A *Beagle, *Rustler, and *Seasparrow were added to the LS Airport in the runway area.
  • A *Hunter was added to the LS Airport's helipad.
*Hopefully people can exercise some self-control and not go nuts with it immediately. wink.gif “For sure, let’s try not to get the pilot’s license early as it could lead to the Taxi glitch & the lesser known Mike Toreno glitch. Both will make it impossible to achieve 100%. I’m not sure but I think that using the Hunter to do Vigilante (to level 12) will be enough flying time to earn the pilot’s license.”
  • An FCR was added in an alley in Rodeo.
  • A towtruck was added down south of seville blvd next to the big gas tanks opposite the desert eagle
  • A quad was added in Ganton flood control because the Kart looked lonely after I moved the jetpack...
  • A SandKing was added by the North end of the beach around Angel Pine.
  • An NRG, *Infernus, *Turismo, and *Cheetah were added to the top of Mt Chilliad where the campers used to be.
    *These vehicles are “extra” special.
  • A towtruck was added next to the I/E crane so you have a ride home after exporting
  • A Rhino was added to Easter Basin in the corner near the Hunter
The following changes and additions were made to pickups:
  • The extra SF and LV jetpacks remain the same. The LS jetpack is now behind CJ's garage and an Angel Pine jetpack was added on the roof of the sawmill.
  • The 9mm in Ganton was changed to a Desert Eagle (30 ammo). Another Desert Eagle was added in LV next to the Royal Casino
  • A silenced pistol pickup (30 ammo) was added down in the Seville BLVD apartments. It's on the top floor between the two buildings on the West side. Another silenced pistol was added to SF at the side door of the mint.
  • A minigun (500 ammo) was added to the Robbing Uncle Sam depot in the middle warehouse
  • An HSRPG (10 ammo) was added on the same roof as the LS RPG
  • A combat shotgun was added in the center of the pool in Pershing Square by the LSPD.
  • NV Goggles were added to the roof of the LS observatory on the other side from the tag. Another was added in LV under the sign at Caligula's and a third was added by some staircases North of Wang Cars.
  • IR Goggles were added at the top of the escalators at the horseshoe-shaped outdoor mall in LS. Another was added in LV at the Visage Casino and a third was added in the SF construction site. These should regenerate after being picked up.
  • Large purple dildos were added around the side of Helena's house and behind Barbara's police station.
  • Small white dildos were added outside the Mulholland Sex Shop and next to Millie's house
  • Large white vibrators were added behind Denise's house and behind Katie's house. CJ is carrying one in the save.
  • Small black vibrators were added at the El Corona Sex Shop and overtop of Michelle's garage.
  • The country rifle that spawns inside the SF stadium was deleted and replaced with one that's actually accessible at the top of some stairs in the back.
  • The police bribe in Doherty that spawns inside a building was deleted and replaced with one that's actually accessible in a small alley behind the fire station.

And, finally, the six clothes shops, three barber shops, and the LS tattoo parlor are accessible from the start although they won't show on the radar until the missions that normally unlock them.

Drive-By is one of the two LS missions which freezes your wanted level at zero, so it's great to exploit to get collectibles or go on killing sprees to up the weapon stats and respect.

I'd really like to pretend I didn't see this post. tounge2.gif

That exact problem is new to me, but I've seen and heard of similar things. I know sometimes when I play on this PC with a lot of other stuff running, sometimes traffic will be over the road initially and then drop down onto the road as it moves. And I've heard of mid-air traffic in either GTA3 or GTA:LC (which is a VC mod) so I'm hoping it's just a random traffic-spawning glitch...

Burglary is available at the start of the game; this is true even without my modifications. wink.gif The game just doesn't tell you about them until the Home Invasion mission, so it's a common misconception and was actually something that was discussed last round too. smile.gif

hi radioman, i was the one who did the burglary mission. like pdescobar says, it's available right away, and it's something i always do first when starting a new game. the infinite sprint you get as a result of completing it is, in my opinion, one of the best mission rewards in the game and it's useful from the beginning. especially in the beginning, really, because otherwise your sprint distance is quite limited.

Well, I've seen my share of strange traffic spawns and definitely what you described. Usually the vehicles drop down on the road when that happens, like you said, and also they spawn only *a little bit* above the road. This time though, oh well, look for yourselves - I just did the uploads like I promised... Let me just say "muha" and what luck that this happened at the very beginning of my turn so I could easily reload and start over lol.gif
