If you spot anything whilst reading this that I have either missed or gotten wrong please PM me about it...

Please don't ever quote this post as it is rather large and will take up supid amounts of page space... Also your quoted version will quickly become out of date as I can only update this page...

Q1. How do I install this thing?

A. You need a USB cable to connect your PSP to your computer. It's not the normal USB cable however, it has a nomal USB connector at one end that goes in your computer and a small USB connector (5-Pin Mini-B) at the other that fits into your PSP. I think they are used mostly by mobile phones.

* Before you start load the game and save your own savegame into slot 1 (or position 2).

* Now, exit the game and on your PSP's main menu scroll all the way left and click on USB Connection.

* Your PSP will appear as a new drive in My Computer (obviously this is if you are using Windows).

* Download the CheatDevice for your version of the game.

* Extract the zip file contents directly onto the PSP drive that appears once connected.

WARNING! Copy your \PSP\SAVEDATA folder to your computer first to avoid overwriting your existing game.


Q2. Will there be a version for 2.6 anytime soon?

A. As of version 0.4 firmware 2.6 is now supported. Don't go upgrading again for no good reason.


Q2. Hello, what the hell is firmware?

A. This question was asked and so i'll answer it. Firmware is the version of your PSP's operating system. Just like Microsoft has Windows 98, Windows NT and Windows XP the PSP has firmware 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.01, 2.5 and now 2.6.

There will be a 2.7 or even a 3.0 released soon but if you want to use this program I would personally advice you not to upgrade.


Q3. When I try to load it it says corrupted data. Why is this?

A. Download the latest version from http://www.maxbot.com/gta/ and make sure you have installed the device savegame in slot 0 and not another game slot.


Q4. Is there any chance this could brick my PSP?

A. No, it runs in user mode which has restricted access to the system and therefore this is impossible.


Q5. What does "brick my PSP" mean? That sounds scary!!!

A. Bricking your PSP means rendering it completely useless (as useful as a brick for playing games). Some malicious homebrew software can do this to your PSP but there is absolutely no way the CheatDevice could do this even if it wanted to because of the access it has to your core files i.e. none.


Q6. Can you have the CheatDevice in a savegame slot other than the first one?

A. No, it appears to be hard coded. It is recommended that before you use the CheatDevice you save your own game in slot 2. This way to can avoid overwriting all your hard work.


Q7. Can I use the CheatDevice on another savegame?

A. Yes, load the CheatDevice savegame and then load any other savegame you want and it will stay in memory and you can turn it on still by pressing Up L.


Q8. Could this crash my savegame?

A. It is recommended that you do not use the CheatDevice on your own game if you intend to save the game. If you use it you should turn off your PSP when you are finished and your personal game will be fine.


Q9. When I use this CheatDevice it resets my PSP. Why is this?

A. Make sure you are using the right version for your version of the game. If you have a US version of the game use the US version of the CheatDevice and likewise with the UK version.

If it crashes your game when you boot your PSP this is because you cannot autoload the CheatDevice at present. You should remove the CheatDevice savegame and then load your own savegame and then save your game in another game slot. You can then reinstall the CheatDevice in slot 0 and the problem is resolved.


Q10. I have a Japanese PSP. Will this work on it?

A. Yes, it's the version of the game that is important and it works on UK\EU\AUS and US\Canadian versions of the game.


Q11. I have a German version of the game and it doesn't seem to work for me?

A. It appears the German version of the game is not currently compatibly with the CheatDevice. edison is very aware of this and is working on it. If anyone knows where to get a German version of the game then it would be a good idea to tell edison where to get it from as he has asked a few times and nobody has posted an answer.


Q12. The game crashes when I spawn or try to get into certain vehicles?

A. As of version 0.3 only spawnable vehicles are available from the CheatDevice menu but some vehicles you try to enter may still crash the game. Here is a list of all the vehicles you can spawn, what their in-game names are and if you can drive them or not,

KEY: RED means you can't drive it and ORANGE means the CheatDevice Code name and the real LCS vehicle names don't match.

Q13. How do you spawn vehicles? I can't get it to work.

A. The CheatDevice works by replacing the vehicles that spawn when you execute the Spawn Rhino or Spawn Trashmaster cheats. You need to select a vehicle to spawn and then execute the corresponding cheat,

Spawn Rhino: L L Left L L Right Triangle Circle

Spawn Trashmaster: Triangle Circle Down Triangle Circle Up L L

As of version 0.3 you can now spawn vehicles simply by selecting the option in the CheatDevice menu and pressing the last part of the respective cheat,

Spawn Rhino: Circle

Spawn Trashmaster: L

Instructions are also available at the bottom of the screen.


Q14. When I spawn a vehicle using the button combo cheats nothing happens? Why is this?

A. Vehicle spawns always occur on the nearest road and not exactly where you are located. Have a look around.


Q15. Can you spawn bikes with the CheatDevice?

A. Yes you can. See vehicle spawn chart above.


Q16. Why do all bikes have tiny wheels?

A. Not sure but apparently if you push one into your garage it will be repaired with normal sized wheels so you can drive it.


Q17. Can you spawn planes with the CheatDevice?

A. Yes you can but only the Dodo. See vehicle spawn chart above.


Q18. I can't get the Dodo to work. Is it supposed to do anything?

A. The Dodo did not have any thrust before v0.5b when a "Really High" teleport location was added so you can teleport there and glide the Dodo to the ground.

As of v0.6 the Dodo was made fully flyable.

Q19. Can you spawn boats with the CheatDevice?

A. No, it crashes the game... Sorry sad.gif


Q20. Can you spawn helicopters with the CheatDevice?

A. Yes, there are a number of available helicopters to play with. See vehicle spawn chart above.


Q21. Why are the helicopters so difficult to fly?

A. The helicopter works best if you use Setup2 in the Controls section of the main LCS menu. This setup makes L and R spin the helicopter left and right.


Q22. Is there a Hunter in the game?

A. Oh Yes!!! and it's great!!!. See vehicle spawn chart above.


Q23. Why can't I get the rail gun not work in the Hunter?

A. You can fire the railgun in two ways depending on which control setup you have selected.

- Setup 1 : R button

- Setup 2 : X+Square


Q24. What does the Power Jump do?

A. The Power Jump changes the standard jump so that there is no limit to the height you can go. By holding down Square you will keep rising higher and higher. You can move forwards by constantly tapping Square to leap from builing to building Matrix/Spiderman style.


Q25. Changing the wanted level doesn't seem to work correctly. Why do only police helicopters seem to get the message.

A. The wanted level only seems to work correctly if you first get a genuine wanted level and then adjust it.


Q26. Does this thing give you snow?

A. Oh yes!! It's available from the weather options.


Q27. Does this work with multiplayer?

A. You cannot access multiplayer with the CheatDevice running but if you activate certain cheats whilst it is loaded and then turn it off with L+R+Up and then start a multiplayer game some cheats are still in memory.

Only the "Never fall off motorcycle" cheat works on multiplayer as of v0.4 but there are some more that will in the next few releases...

Q28. Is there an infinite ammo cheat?

A. There are no plans to add this feature.


Q29. Is there a mission select option?

A. Not yet, there is apparently a problem with this that crashes the game.


Q30. Can you change the player character to another character in the game?

A. No, this has not been implemented but there is a cheat to change the player character to a random pedestrian.

Random Ped Outfit: L L Left L L Right Square Triangle

You may find that when you execute this cheat you can only move forwards. If this happens use the Comit Suicide cheat and then try the Random ped Outfit cheat again and you will be able to move correctly.

Comit Suicide: L Down Left R X Circle Up Triangle


Q31. Can you change the colour of cars?

A. As of version 0.3 you can change the majority of car colours including any stripes etc on them. Some vehicles like Taxis and Rhinos cannot be changed however. Car colour options are available via the main menu but only work if you are in a vehicle (obviously).


Q32. Does it allow you to crouch?

A. No, because this never happens in the game it's probably not possible.


Q33. Can you teleport?

A. Oh yes, there are preset locations available but you cannot teleport inside buildings like safehouses because you just fall into a black whole.


Q34. Is there any way to enter your own teleport co-ordinates?

A. No, there are plenty of locations hardcoded that should be able to get you just about anywhere you want to go.


Q35. Can you spawn a parachute?

Only models that are in LCS can be spawned so the answer is no.


Q36. Can you slow down time like an adrenaline pill effect?

Lot's of people have asked for this but it is aparently not a priority because there is already a button combo cheat for it. It may turn up in a later release.


Q37. Can you recruit pedestrains?

Not in the current release but it might be possible to add this later because it kind-a happens in the Avenging Angel missions but so far edison hasn't looked into it...?


Q38. Can you change your stats?

You cannot change your stats currently but edison says that this is definitly possible but is very low down on the list of things to do.


Q39. How much memory does the CheatDevice use?

A. It only takes about 45K, but that's out of only 150K free.


Q40. Can you take pictures using the camera?

A. The camera is not available using the CheatDevice but as of version 0.3 you can take pictures by selecting the menu option and hitting X twice. The pictures are stored as bitmap files and go into the PSP's PHOTO folder so they are viewable on your PSP.


Q41. Why do some of my pictures look messed up?

A. You need to avoid taking pictures with too much action going on. The picture is taken whilst game play is still active and so too much movement causes problems.


Q42. How do I get the pictures onto my computer/internet?

A. You need a USB cable as described in the Installing the CheatDevice question above.

When you have connected your PSP to your computer you will find your pictures/videos in the PSP\PHOTO folder on the PSP drive that appears in My Computer.

If you are dealing with single images then bitmap files are not very website compatible so you will probably want to load your saved images into mspaint (if you have Windows) and save them as .JPG or .GIF files if you intend to post them on the internet.

If you want to post your images to most forums then they must be in .GIF or .JPG file format and then you need to upload then to an internet visible location. File Lodge lets you do this for free. When you have uploaded them you put the url within [img] tags for example,

Q43. Can I take pictures through the sights of the sniper rifle or rocket launcher and is it possible to take a picture of a head shot?

A. Yes you can, but is quite tricky and requires careful timing.


Q44. Is it possible to capture a video clip with the CheatDevice?

A. Yes, as of v0.5 you can use the video recorder. Once activated the game runs very slowly but it will capture your session very acuratly (just keep on going)... Explosions and flight as well as any high speed activity will be captured correctly. Ignore the screen wipes and keep on going and you might just be able to do stuff like this...

To stop recording press Down and X.

The video clips are saved in the PSP\PHOTO\ folder the same as screenshots are but clips are saved as .GIF files and you will need to copy them onto your computer to see them animate. You cannot view the video clips directly on your PSP.


Q45. Why is it so slow when i'm recording a video clip?

A. There is not enough memory to capture the whole screen in one go so edison has to grab chunks of the screen separatly and then stream them to the mem stick until the entire picture is complete. This means that if the game ran at normal speed the screen would quickly change (as you are moving about) before all parts of the image could be grabbed. To get around this problem the game speed is slowed right down to give the program time to complete each frame capture before something changes.

If you change the processor speed to 333Mhz (rather than the 222 default) using the CheatDevice before you start the Video Recorder the performance is a lot better.

The quality and speed you get also depends on the memory stick you have as some products perform better than others do with the CheatDevice.


Q46. How do I get the video clips onto my computer/internet?

A. In the same way as you do with pictures. See question 42.


Q47. When I record videos and click on them I only see a short part of my video. Why?

A. I assume you have Windows and if so don't worry because this is Windows being rubbish. If you want to see your full animation open a brand new Internet Explorer window and then drag your animated GIF into it. If that works then you're god to go.


Q48. My video clips are too large to upload to the internet is there a way to shrink them?

A. Yes. The CheatDevice saves the clips as uncompressed GIF files. If you load them into a program like Microsoft Gif Animator or GIF Optimizer v1.0 and save them with a new filename you should be able to shrink them by about 50%.

If you still have problems uploading because of the size (Photobucket will resize them if they are bigger than 512K) then the following website allows you to upload images files of any size (people have found files as large of 8MB do not appear to be allowed),

Q49. Can I view the video clips on my PSP?

A. yes you can using the LCS Video Player web application written by Spielmann. This application works using the PSP's web browser and will work without you having to be connected to the internet.

It doesn't work with very large files unfortunatly because of a limitation of the browsers memory allocation routines.

Q50. What's all this processor speed business with version 0.5?

A. The PSP was designed to run at a maximum of 333Mhz which is the speed at which the console's brain works (if you like). The faster the processor works the more power it needs so the majority of games (if not all) run at 222Mhz. Version 0.5 of the CheatDevice allows you to change the processor speed so you can increase the performance of the game which affects the number of cars and pedestrians that can be on the screen at one time before the game slows down and becomes jerky and sluggish as well as the draw distance and, well, performance in general.

The drawback to using the higher 333Mhz setting is that your battery lifetime will be approximatly 30% less than it would if you were running the game ay 222Mhz.


Q51. Why can't I change the processor speed? Where is the option?

A. This option is not available to people running 2.6 firmware. This is because of the jumbled syscalls that version of firmware introduced. There are no plans to add this feature for 2.6 users so don't ask about it in the main CheatDevice thread as it is now a banned topic.


Q53. Are there any plans to...?

Add Modded Cars

It has been said categorically that this is not possible because the car models are on the UMD and he has no access to them.

Add New Weapons / Characters / Cars from other GTA games

Only models that are in LCS can be spawned and nothing can be added because they are simply not in the game. The reason there is a Hunter, Dodo etc. available with the CheatDevice is because it seems the objects in LCS are simply a copied and modified Vice City collection of models. Maybe R* was planning to add a hunter mission but didn't have time.

Add Bullet Tracers

Again, not a feature in the game so not possible.

Add New Areas of the City

Again, modding so not possible.

Have Infinite Mission Time

This is definitly possible and will probably get added at some point but it's really just a way to cheat during missions and doesn't add replay value which is edison's main priority.

Change the water level

This is probably not going to be possible because it looks like the water gets created before the savegame file gets loaded and it is therefore too late to manipulate the water setup.

Allow 2.6 users to change the processor speed

No, no and no...!


Q54. Why does the game slow down when I lower the gravity?

A. The game doesn't actually slow down it just looks like it does because you have less traction.


Q55. When I try to freeze everything it doesn't work on vehicles. Why is that?

A. Vehicles will only freeze if you touch them but you can make them all freeze by turning on the aggressive drivers cheat.

Q56. What is the CheatMaker for and where is it?

A. The CheatMaker is a new tool added to version 0.7 of the CheatDevice. It allows you to view and edit memory in order to make your own cheats. It also lets you record and compare memory captures.

To get to the CheatMaker you need to scroll right down the CheatDevice menu to the bottom and then press down again to get to the list of user cheats. On this menu page there is an option Go to CheatMaker that will bring up the CheatMaker.


Q57. How do I make my own cheats with the CheatMaker?

A. Before I begin it is worth saying that the CheatMaker is intended for advanced users and programmers. Some of the stuff here may be too complicated for everyone to understand.

A lot of the numbers you will be dealing with will be in hexadecimal which means instead of counting 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and then 10, you count 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,A,B,C,D,E,F and then 10, and the 10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,1A,1B,1C,1D,1E,1F and then 20.

To make a cheat you need to find the location in memory of a value that, when changed, affects the game in some way. The memory, when the game is loaded, is full of numbers relating to all sorts of things from the number of bullets loaded in a particular gun to the radio station that is currently playing.

There are basically two ways to use the CheatMaker to find the memory locations and values that affact the game. You can use the Hex Editor and watch the values change as you do something or you can take memory captures and use the CheatMaker to analyse them.

Hex Editor

The hex editor is the second menu option in the CheatMaker menu. If you open the hex editor you will be asked to enter the memory location you want to look at. The memory location you enter is a hexadecimal number that can be anything between 08400000 (0x8400000) and 09FFFFFF (0x9FFFFFF).

There is also an option to open the Hex Editor PlayerObject that will show you the memory that controls Toni and you don't have to enter a specific memory location to view this.

Wether you are using the Hex Editor or the Hex Editor PlayerObject you will see a screen that looks like this,

All the numbers in memory in this example can be pin pointed by using the location column on the left and changing the last digit of the relevant row to the coresponding column header value (0 to F) it appears in.

You will notice that some of the numbers change when you move around or shoot a gun or something. When they change they turn white to help you spot them. So the numbers 01 to 08 that i've placed in this example have changed and the location of each of them is as follows,

01 = 0000055 0
02 = 0000055 4
03 = 0000055 7
04 = 0000055 B

05 = 0000057 3

06 = 0000058 9
07 = 0000058 D
08 = 0000058 F

You may notice some people using a different notation when writing locations. For example 00000055 could be written 0x55. To use this notation just replace any 0's to the left of the first number with 0x. 00B5E501 could be written as 0xB5E501, 00005AB1 could be written as 0x5AB1 and so on.

Capture Method

You could use the Hex Editor or PlayerObject tools to find cheats by watching what values change when you do stuff but a much better way to find cheats is to use the CheatMaker's capture facility. In order to explain this I'm going to use the Max Money cheat I worked out as an example.

To work out this cheat you should start off with a known amount of money and then take a capture by selecting the New Capture option on the CheatMaker menu.

You will now see Capture1 has been added to the menu. When I took the first capture I had $00455155 so now move over the Capture1 menu item and press right on the D-Pad so it looks like this,

Capture1 == 0

Now Press X because we want to tell the CheatMaker that we are only interested in values that are equal to 455155 in that particular capture. Enter the value 455155.

Now we need to spend some money so go and buy a gun from somewhere. OK, I bought a couple of AK's and now I have $00446755. So select the New Capture option on the CheatMaker menu again and you should now have the following,

Capture1 == 455155
Capture2 == Capture1

Change the second capture to be equal to the new amount of money we have in the same way as we did for the first capture by hovering over it and using the D-Pad (this time press left on the D-Pad a few times) to change the comparison to be Capture2 == 0 and then pressing X to change the value from 0 to 446755.

Capture1 == 455155
Capture2 == 446755

Now spend some more money. The more captures we take the quicker we will be able to find the right memory location for money.

I now have $00438355 so I will take another capture and change the new one to be equal to that like so,

Capture1 == 455155
Capture2 == 446755
Capture3 == 438355

At this point i'm going to keep spending money and taking more and more captures until I end up with this,

Capture1 == 455155
Capture2 == 446755
Capture3 == 438355
Capture4 == 421555
Capture5 == 379555
Capture6 == 350155

I'm thinking that should be enough to find where my money is stored in memory.

Before we run the comparison we need to tell the CheatMaker what size number we are looking for by changing the Type option in the CheatMaker menu. The following types are available,

1-byte char00FF0 to 255
2-byte short00 00FF FF0 to 65535
4-byte int00 00 00 00FF FF FF FF0 to 4294967295
Because the money can be $99999999 which is quite a big number we need to change the type of number we are searching for to be a 4-byte int so the menu should look like this,

Type: 4-byte int

Now select the Run Comparison option on the CheatMaker menu. The CheatMaker will now search through all the 6 captures looking for locations where the value was 455155 in the first capture, 446755 in the second, 438355 in the third and so on.

When it has finished you will see it only found one candidate (which is good),

08B89ACC 455155 446755 438355 421555 350155

So we can be pretty sure that 08B89ACC (0x8B89ACC) is the location of the new cheat.

Now we need to use the Hex Editor to change the value at that location and see if it changes the amount of money we have.

Open the Hex Editor and enter the location we found 08B89ACC.

Because the money value is a 4 byte int then it is actually stored in 4 locations in memory so in order to change it we need to change the value at 08B89ACC and the 3 locations that follow it 08B89ACD, 08B89ACE and 08B89ACF.

Now here's where it gets a bit strange. Because I have $350155 (which is 00 05 57 CB in hex) you would expect to see the following,

08B89ACC = 00
08B89ACD = 05
08B89ACE = 57
08B89ACF = CB

But what you actually see is this,

08B89ACC = CB
08B89ACD = 57
08B89ACE = 05
08B89ACF = 00

Yes, that's right, it's backwards. Don't ask, just accept it and this illustrates how you need to think about things when finding cheats.

OK, so lets test to see if this is a cheat or we've completly waisted our time. We want to change the amount of money we have to $99999999 and 99999999 is 05 F5 E0 FF in hex and backwards would be FF E0 F5 05 so change all the 4 locations to be this (by pressing X on them and changing the number),

08B89ACC = FF
08B89ACD = E0
08B89ACE = F5
08B89ACF = 05

Yey, watch your money start going up and up. It will stop at $99999999.

This example worked well because we were looking for known values but what if you wanted to find a cheat to change vehicle speed or something like that where we wouldn't know what exact speed we were going at when we take the captures?

You have other options when using the D-Pad to change the type of comparison the CheatMaker will do on your captures. For example if I didn't know how much money I had I could have tried the following to find the location,

Capture1
Capture2 > Capture1
Capture3 > Capture2
Capture4 > Capture3
Capture5 > Capture4
Capture6 > Capture5

With this method when you select the Run Comparison the CheatMaker would look for all locations where the value in Capture2 was bigger than the value at the same location in Capture1 and the value was bigger at the same location in Capture3 than in Capture2 and bigger still in Capture4 than in Capture3 and so on.

You can use the following comparisons,

==equal to
!=not equal to
>greater than
<less than
Here is another example that uses the "not equal to" method. In this example I'm trying to find if I can turn Custom Tracks on and off.

First, turn Custom Tracks off and take a capture. Next turn Custom Tracks on and take another capture. Turn it off again and take another capture. Turn it on again and take another and carry on like this until you have quite a few.

Now change the comparison settings to look like this,

Capture1
Capture2 != Capture1
Capture3 == Capture1
Capture4 != Capture1
Capture5 == Capture1
Capture6 != Capture1

Change the size of the number we want to be Type: 1-byte char because I'm guessing the value is 00 when Custom Tracks is off and 01 when it is on.

Now hit Run Comparison and check out any locations that look like possibilities using the Hex Editor.

I did manage to find this and it's at 09ADBC08 (0x9adbc08). Set it to 0 and the radio comes on and set it to 1 and press left on the D-Pad and your Custom Tracks start playing.

Saving Your Cheats

It's all well and good being able to find cheats but a pain in the neck having to go to the Hex Editor all the time to turn them on. Don't worry, help is at hand as there is a cheats.txt file you can put on your PSP so you can run your cheats from the User Cheats section of the CheatDevice menu.

The cheats.txt file should be placed in the CHEATS folder in the root of your PSP. By the root I mean the top level (DO NOT PLACE IT IN A FOLDER OR I WONT WORK).

Here is a cheats.txt file that contains the Max Money cheat we made and the radio cheats,

If you load up the CheatDevice with this cheats.txt when you go to the User Cheat menu you will see the following,

OFF Max Money
OFF Radio On
OFF Custom Tracks On

To define a cheat you type #cheat and then the name of the cheat as you want it to appear in the CheatDevice. Then you need to use one of the following functions to specify the memory location and the value it should be changed to when it is turned on,

setchar(startaddress, intvalue, ...);
sethex(startaddress, hexintvalue, ...;
setshort(startaddress, intvalue, ...);
setint(startaddress, intvalue, ...);
setfloat(startaddress, floatvalue, ...);

As you can see in my cheats.txt file I use setint for the Max Money cheat because it was a 4-byte int (remember) and setchar for the Custom Tracks because it was a 1-byte char.

There is a programming.txt file that comes with the CheatDevice that contains more detailed instructions on the formatting of the cheats.txt file so I won't go into too much detail here.

I will mention you also have a teleport function you can put in the cheats.txt file you can use to add your own custom teleport locations. It works like this,

teleport(x, y, z);

If you go somewhere in LCS and use the CheatDevice to find the co-ordinates then you can add that location to your cheats.txt file so you can teleport there at any time in the game. Let's update the above cheats.txt file to include a teleport location.

firmwire is the version your psp is smile.gif
to check what your firmwire is go to system settings and choose system information... on the second line there it should say System Software: and your firmwire number

Pictures and videos are the same thing as far as the CheatDevice is conserned except videos are GIF files and pictures are BMP files... The FAQ tells you how to get BMP files from your PSP and post them on a forum... The exact same process will work for video GIF files...

I will update the FAQ so there is no confusion but it is exactly the same... The videos the CheatDevice creates should be considered the same as any static GIF image and they can be posted in the same way as any static image would be...

hey thanks man yeah i saved the cheat thing to my saved data on the psp but it didnt work how do you activate it?
i have got 2 saved games for it already so do you load up the first game save and it shud work.

1. What version of the game do you have US, UK or German...?

2. The samegame you load has a picture of a helicopter on it yes...?

3. You load the game up and then load the other "helicopter pic" savegame in slot 0 yes...?

4. What is the name of the folder in which you installed the game...? it's in \PSP\SAVEDATA\

5. What firmware version do you have...? Find out using the PSP's main menu System Settings -> System Information

You must be doing something very wrong...

Reinstall the UK version of the CheatDevice. Don't delete the folder you have in there now, just overwrite it with the newer version. If the helicopter picture is the savegame's picture, then it worked!

For me, everything works well except video recording, which slows the game to about 0.2 FPS (literally) --> yes that translates to about 5 seconds per "frame" of video recording.

Yep, that's how it works... If you run the game at 333 Mhz it works a little better...
