Did I miss something? I thought the whole episode was sub-par tbh. Those car v. public transport segments don't really interest me much anymore.

Yeah, nothing really eye catching in it. The FRS and news segments were kind of dodgy on my end though. But a Top Gear without supercars is a bit tame compared to the last couple of weeks.

Thoroughly enjoyed that kia rugby feature. I'd totally follow it if it were a legitimate sport. Although I have to say I feel super sorry for the cars in question. They do seem like nice cars to live with.

Same here, waht an awesome show...just watched it. I have no idea why there isnt a sport like car rugby. I was also a bit sa over the cars, but then i noticed that they didnt have almost any serious damage, altough the hits were massive. Even the bumpers were fine. Only serious damage was the caved door on one of the ceeds and the bent wheel on the SUV.

I drove the new Forester a few hours ago, actually. Didn't get a chance to take it on an offroad excursion, but it sure drives nice on the road. colgate.gif

My 1996 Legacy wagon got some hard off road use similar to what happened to Hammond's bug eye. Thing is, for being the 750 dollar piece of sh*t it was, with all 300k miles on it, it was a good family vehicle for a year or so. Aside from swapping out the clutch after teaching my wife how to drive stick, it literally gave me no issue. Sure, when GTAFers Lurch and Icarus were over, my exhaust may have fallen off on the highway minutes after their arrival but it managed to get us from Pittsburgh to Philly and back again with no issue...aside from being noisy sans muffler.

Subaruing aside, the episode was great. These specials always catch my attention the most and still get watched over and over due to the fact that these specials are the one time you see all three of them really together. It changes the shows dynamic so much but it is all so damn perfect.

I agree, that episode was just excellent, but seemed to be so short. Just can't wait to see part 2, and see what happened to Hammonds Impreza exactly. But i do love when the guys improve their cars, the way the decorated te cars and built beds and cupboards and even a stove in the car was just so cool. Wish i could have or could make something like that in a car and then go and travel with it in Africa. Would be just the trip of a lifetime.

Yeah, special are usually the best episodes of the seasons. Plus I like how these 3 smucks try to drive through some of the harshest terrain on the planet.

The 850R has a greater chance of surviving the trip over the 5 series.

Not really. Sure the beamer isn't getting as stuck as much as the 850R, but not by much. The beamer has a lot of problems with itself. It can't stop moving up hill, the ebrake is borked and throttle is also f*cked.

He should've went for an E34 525ix tounge.gif

It depends where you look. There was a 1992 525ix Touring on pistonheads recently for 1295.

If we were playing "what hypothetical 1500 car would you use for this challenge", I'd avoid that iX. The drivetrain on them is...fragile at best.

1) Subaru Forester
2) Volvo 850 AWD
3) Audi A6 2.7 Biturbo (shame you couldn't get an AllRoad in budget)

The Impreza is probably the best equipped of the 3 to tackle the terrain, and a great choice too, but I'd rather have the additional ground clearance of the Forester.

But isn't the Forester considered a SUV?
