Only viruses will do this kind of thing. I would scan for viruses in Safe Mode. Usually it's a virus looking for a disk to copy itself to.

Either that; or have you installed any programs recently? Anything?

I'm glad you said instead of me.
For someone reason I'm catching a bit of s**t for blaming strange and bizarre things happening in PCs on spyware and viruses.
