Straight from the horse’s mouth:

"Take-Two is reducing its fiscal 2005 guidance to reflect several factors, including the movement of the launch of Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories for the PSP™ handheld entertainment system in certain European territories from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2005 to the first quarter of fiscal 2006, due to unexpected delays in final product testing and submission. Shipments of the title have been made to the UK in the fourth quarter, with the title expected to ship in the remaining European territories in late November."

"For Fiscal 2006, we are well positioned for the opportunities to extend our brands across the large installed base of current generation platforms, as well as next generation hardware including the two previously announced Rockstar Games titles for the PSP, one of which is a new Grand Theft Auto title."
-- Paul Eibeler, President & CEO, Take Two Interactive

Nice. It has been said before that R* is working on two new PSP titles, but this is the first confirmation that one of them is GTA.

*keeps fingers crossed for flying*

They're going to make a new GTA for other consoles, but I don't see why they can't design another one for the PSP portable format too. I won't go into it again because it's been discussed to death, but I wouldn't mind them continuing the "Stories" series with a Vice City Stories or Los Santos Stories.

I've recently been thinking that a San Fierro Stories has a lot of potential. I think it would be a nice trend for GTA games to have PSP versions, but instead of just remaking the exact same game they just re-use the city in another time period and design it specifically for a handheld as LCS was to GTA3.

Yeah, I should have expanded on what I meant. Sure, they can make a PSP game, but make it for other consoles as well. In my opinion, this shuts out a huge chunk of their buyers by making it only for one system.

And, while going back to old places with new stories would be cool, I'd like to see a new place.

Well, I've not played LCS yet, but I'm assuming that it looks much better on the PSP than it would on a PC or PS2/3.

As I understand it - the time it takes to complete a mission is halved and it is lacking many of the features and advancements that appear in the current console/pc versions.

So releasing them for those formats might make the game seem like a backward step for them.

Of course i'm biased. I wouldn't say that I bought a PSP purely for LCS, but I'm not sure I would even have considered it If I hadn't heard of LCS. I suppose I just want more games to make it seem even more worth it.

I'd be very annoyed if they brought a PS2 version out within the next 3 months.

they are never going to port a HANDHELD game to a console, thats just nuts. Consoles are much more powerful than handhelds and any handheld game ported to a console will get raped by reviews because of horrible graphics and limited playability compared to other games.

i wouldnt mind a san fierro stories game, i think my only hang up would be if it was ONLY san fierro, and not the observatory or mt chiliad

So is gtaforums going to add a new forum for GTA PSP next?
I'd love to see a Vice City Stories, maybe a continuation on where Vice City left off.

SF was a nice city, but for some reason, I just can't see a SF Stories game. Partially because the entire map would have to be available from the start. Maybe my imagination is lacking.

Damn them, this is a good reason to me to fork out brass and buy myself a PSP.

Interesting that they announce it before people in Europe even have the game though.

Even though it's a PSP exclusive, it may be possible in the future it could be released on other platforms. Then again, It wouldn't stand up against the latest GTA's because LCS is amazing on PSP but wouldn't be nearly as good as what's come out for the other platforms.

I think they will do it in Vice City. It's the most easy thing for them to do so I guess thats what they will do.

But it would be nice to get a brand new place to explore.

the PS2 versions of GTA really aren't *that* much better looking than the PSP, and besides, it's not exactly hard to do better textures. Compare the PS2, PC and Xbox versions of GTA3 and see which you thinks looks best.

Personally, I reckon Rockstar should bring out LCS as a budget title on PC/PS2/Xbox next year, priced at around £20 or something, because it'd fly off the shelves and a conversion has gotta be a hell of a lot less work than developing a whole new game, especially as they clearly didn't spend mall that much on the city design.. and added to that, it's not like people don't put consoles in their cars now, I have a slimline PS2 under my drivers seat with one of those dirt cheap LCD TV's imported from Japan in the back of the headrest..

Its good to hear that buying a PSP was worth it, its one thing to get one GTA but another one is just icing on the cake.

The simple fact about these games coming out on other consoles is that Rockstar won't because as others have said they are games that are revisiting previous cities with new stories so it would almost be a step backwards. Not to mention Sony probably wouldn't allow it as they want people to buy PSP's over PS2's. Maybe in 2 or 3 years time they will allow maybe some PS2 classic versions of both LCS and possibly VCS at a budget price due to the obvious age of the PS2 by then.

makes it unavailable to me. I don't play consoles, and don't want to pay $200-250 for a PSP for only 1 game. And then once i'm done with it, not play it for 3-4 months, then come back to it.

I Personally think that they could make a 3D version of GTA: Advance.. I mean, it makes perfect sense to do that as it does explain one or 2 left over storylines from gta3 and it's the only proper gta game that they havn't 3d'ed (except london which was just an expansion)

I'm thinking to myself GTA: LCS 2 (if they did advance) but i dunno. There is also the issue that it would again be using Liberty City, and i'm sure people don't want to see a second LC title on the psp. But maybe in a few more years.

that is a good idea, with the exception of it being in LC, another LCPSP title would suck right now - tho, i dont know how much i would like a vice city stories, the geography there is very one dimentional

The reason it was like that because it was the 80's and also they were in Miami. (Vice City)
