EDIT by Ben - Please note that this topic is now covered in the pinned FAQ topic.

-------------------------------------------------------

We're getting a lot of posts lately about people not getting the mod to work because it's asking for the VC CD (even though it's in the drive already).

Here's how you fix those problems. First click on the "Show Config" shortcut. Then click on the advanced button. This gets you into the launcher's interface. Once there, click on the audio tab. In the audio section you will find a button that says "Verify paths" Click that. If you have this problem, then you will most likely see this error message:
QUOTE
Error
.\Audio\Wild.ADF is not found!

Now what you have to do is go into your Audio folder and look for the Wild.ADF file. It's probably not there. Open up your Vice City play disc and copy that file over to your audio folder. The radio stations must be on your hard drive for this mod to work. Once that's done, click on the Verify paths button again. Now it will probably say:
QUOTE
Error
.\Audio\FLASH.ADF is not found!

Repeat the previous step but make sure you copy the Flash.adf file over. Keep repeating this process until the Verify paths buttons says:
QUOTE
All files valid.

If the Verify paths button says all files are valid and you're still getting that error message, let me know and we'll try to find out what's wrong.

Hey,

Im not getting a wild.adf error message but im getting a HEAD.wav not found error message. I assume HEAD.wav is from Head Radio from GTA3. But i dont have gta3 so i dont have that file. What should I do?

Thanks colgate.gif

If that's the case, click on the Restore button right underneath the New path text box for each file that's a problem. Repeat until all files are valid.

I had this problem too with the HEAD.WAV file. Restore resolved the problem, but it doesn't seem to for WILD.ADF. I have the file already in the \Audio directory and it still says '...is not found'.

Any more suggestions?

Are you sure that the file is there? Make sure you look at the complete path that the dialog box tells you to. After clicking on restore, then it should revert to the Vice City's default paths. Once that's done then it should look in the audio folder for wild.adf.

If the wild.adf file is in your audio (not audioLC) folder and the launcher still says it's not found, then you're having a problem that I've never seen before.

No, I'm certain they're in the right place, just as you describe.

uhh, i had the vice city cd problem too, but i used another thing that told me open the gta-lc config file and replace everything in it with something else, it fixed the problem, but will it cause other problems? (like the random game exit problem that i posted in the help topic)

In response to Ed, what was this 'other way' that you used, coz I've had no joy with the method outlined above. It finds HEAD.WAV, but then won't find the WILD.ADF file, even though it's there.

Do you have the GTA3 audio files? If you do, then it shouldn't even look for the adf files.

I received a lot of requests for the v5 test with the installer. While I'm uncomfortable releasing it at this time due to the radio bug, I will make the link publically available. Just be aware that this isn't the final v5. There are still some bugs in it. The most obvious one is that the GTA3 radio stations will not work if you have the standard gta-vc.exe. Hopefully we can fix that, otherwise there will only be VC radio. If try to install the radio stations and you have issues, then open up your gta-lc.ini file (with notepad) and replace everything with this information:

i used that, and it fixed the "insert cd" thing, but now im getting like non stop random "unhandled exeptions" that change every time, and i get them very very often, im doing the mission "sayonara salvatore" and i havent been able to complete it because i can never make it back to my hideout before an unhandled exeption pops up and i have to redo it again, is this how the game is or is it because i changed this thing that i get tons of unhandled exeptions, i also get them when im not on missions at pretty much random, and i dont have the GTA3 audio files, that might explain it, also when i click verify paths in the config it says all my files are valid

I know there's still a few serious bug issues with Sayonara Salvatore, but ive never seen anything like that.

I don't think it has anything to do with having the audio files - the installer creates all of the relevant files needed to play (but they are just blank). If you were missing files, the verify paths bit would say that there were files missing.

its not just with the salvatore mission, i got it on other missions too, and sometimes when i was just driving or walking around the city not on a mission i get an unhandled exeption, but its happened every single time ive tried the salvatore mission, i kill the guy but i can never make it back to a hideout before i get an unhandled exeption of some sort

its not just with the salvatore mission, i got it on other missions too, and sometimes when i was just driving or walking around the city not on a mission i get an unhandled exeption, but its happened every single time ive tried the salvatore mission, i kill the guy but i can never make it back to a hideout before i get an unhandled exeption of some sort

Well, like i said, that doesn't sound audio related. Modifying the .ini file may well be causing your problems. That was only relevant (or so i thought) for the v5a, and not the most recent release, the v5b - Craig's workaround in the first post here was how to overcome the problem for the v5b.

No, I'm certain they're in the right place, just as you describe.

Perhaps you could try cutting all of your .adf files out of your audio folder in your LC directory, and placing them in another folder (not in your LC directory). Then, make new blank .adf files (right click on your desktop, go to New -> Wave sound. Then, open your new file in media player, and select Save Media As -> call it WILD.ADF. Copy it and rename the copy to another radio station; repeat until you have blank files for all of your VC radio stations) and put them in your audio (not audioLC) folder in your LC directory. Im not sure if it will make any difference, but since no-one else has any suggestions, you can try it. But, like Craig said, if you have the GTA3 audio, the launcher shouldn't even look for the .adf files. I dunno, you could even try just making new .wav files for your GTA3 radio stations and placing them in your audioLC (not audio) folder - they'd just be blank though (if you're going to do this, don't forget to back up the originals). Good luck.

ok, i reinstalled lc so now i have the original gta-lc config file, but now when i click verify paths in the show config thing, it says File .\AUDIOLC\HEAD.WAV is not found! it didnt say that when i replaced the stuff in the config file, but modifying the config file is probably the reason i get non-stop unhandled exeptions

edit: doing the restore button thing fixed the no cd problem, lets see how my game does now, hopefully i wont get unhandled exeptions

Hi,

I'm sorry to break more bad news, but I have downloaded the latest version of LC 2 days ago and did not manage to make it run on my machine. I have been checking the postings here for help and tried all of the advices given. When I verifyed the paths of all sound files and restored them to the original VC settings, the game started, but only to crash immediately after I selected "start new game". Changing the .INI file manually or creating blank .adf files did not have any effect (though I only substituted the VC files...I did not create blank adf's in the AudioLC folder with the original GTA3 names).

The debugging window appears with the following message:

"Unhandled exception at address 0x005802fe"

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I've never seen someone with the all files valid message that still got that message. I'm not sure why it's not working for you. confused.gif

You shouldn't. The only theory I have right now is there's some files that are on the VC CD that should be on your HD. Try copying everything from the VC play CD (audio folder) to the audio (not audioLC) folder of your LC installation. Try playing then. If that doesn't work then I have no idea.

You need wild.adf in the audio folder, not the audiolc folder, then go into the lc control pannel and click restore.

Do you have a full install of VC (i.e. - the radio files on your hard-drive)? Did you try everything that has been suggested in this topic?

how do i use this LC control panel i've heard about? i had to use the work around that was posted to install LC cuz it kept hanging at decompressing the files. now i keep getting asked to put in the VC disc. I tried copying all the stuff from 'audio' on the VC cd to the 'audio' folder on my hdd, that didn't work. i copied the files from the GTA3 cd onto my hdd, that didn't work either. in the first post he mentioned something about clicking on the show config shortcut.....where is that located? i can't seem to find it.
