I didn't see this posted here.

Sony has released the 2.0 firmware upgrade for the PSP which adds a load of new features.
  • Revisions to strengthen security were added.
  • An Internet browser was added.
  • Go To was added as a feature under [Video].
    (This applies to UMD Video)
  • A-B Repeat was added as a feature under [Video].
(This applies to UMD Video and video data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • 4:3 Screen Mode was added as a feature under [Video].
(This applies to video data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • Audio Options was added as a feature under [Video].
(This applies to video data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • AVC was added as a codec that can be played under [Video].
(This applies to video data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • Support for Memory Stick PRO Duo was added to [Music].
  • MP4 (AAC) and WAV (LPCM) were added as formats that can be played under [Music].
(This applies to music data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • Image transfer was added as a feature under [Photo].
  • Wallpaper was added as a feature under [Photo].
  • TIFF, PNG, GIF and BMP were added as image formats that can be displayed under [Photo].
  • Korean was added as an option to [System Language] under [Settings], [System Settings].
  • [Character Set] was added to [System Settings] under [Settings].
  • [Theme Settings] was added under [Settings].
  • WPA-PSK (TKIP) was added as a security method under [Network Settings].
  • Settings for Infrastructure Mode under [Network Settings] were revised to be easier to use.
  • Input modes were added to the on-screen keyboard.
  • Previous Update: German, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese and Russian were added as options to [System Language] under [Settings], [System Settings].
  • Previous Update: Support to retain the screen mode setting was added under [Video].
(This applies to video data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • Previous Update: Support to allow resume play after recovery from sleep mode was added under [Video].
(This applies to video data saved on Memory Stick.)
  • Previous Update: Support to allow resume play of audio tracks after recovery from sleep mode was added under [Music].
  • Previous Update: UMD Music can now be played under [Music].

The new upgrade has been confermed to work on American PSPs. The bad news is that Home Brew is locked down hard.

There are some complaints. One being that, although Sony supposedly supports it, AAC files don't play on the PSP for some reason. Another one is that the Internet browser doesn't support flash and video files.

You can download the firmware here.

Awesome post. biggrin.gif

I was going against the firmware, because I like the emulators ans junk, but the upgrades aren't that bad.

Flash would've been awesome. sad.gif

Actually, I think newer games will require the upgraded firmware (rumor at the SCEA boards, I haven't been there in a while). suicidal.gif

My router is f*cking up at the moment, but I'm definitely digging the theme adjuster. I only wish that they added a font color adjuster.

Do you have wireless internet?

I'd get the update, but I need to find out how to use wireless net on it easily.

I was at a hot-spot the other day... and tried to play multiplayer over the net. I still haven't figured out how that works. Do you have to go through a site?

Anyway, I'm getting this as soon as I figure the above out. Sounds good. smile.gif

i'm still waiting to update. i love my homebrew sh*t, and i already have personalized wallpapers. i don't care about browsing the internet either, because my cell phone has a better brwser, and i don't have to be near a router or hot spot or anything. and the new music and video i dont care for, it's working just fine on my 1.5.

oh but animated gif wallpapers would be the sh*t. confused.gif

You can't update w/ a wireless router yet anyway, just download the update and connect via USB.

And you can have animated .gif's as wallpapers?? wow.gif

To update it or not to update it?... that is the question...

Damn, what should I do? I still got the 1.5 version (though I don't have a wireless network at home).

I thought it was 300x170? Also, they have to be .bmp and 24 colors which is always under 150 KB.

I'm waiting for the US release of the Firmware. I mean, I don't think there's anything wrong with the ones you guys are getting, but better safe than sorry. So, yeah. I'm sure the US release of the 2.0 will be out soon. smile.gif

I think the only difference is that the Japanese firmware uses Japanese encoding for web pages by default. No harm in waiting though. wink.gif
