Why does your vision get blurry when you start hitting some high speeds in various vehicles? It screws me up sometimes biggrin.gif

It's supposed to be a sense of speed.
Duh.

Thats so dumb though!

I never drive 90mph down the freeway and see any landscape stretching out before me...

I don't know if it does it on PC or Xbox but I believe that was the games workaround for not having to have the game draw everything so fast when at high speed-- the game loads buildings and stuff as you approach as opposed to VC or III where the buildings on each island were loaded at once (which is why the game paused when crossing over from one island to the others on PS2....there are still times when the buildings/road don't load-- the most irritating is on the street race "into the country"-- I've had the road completely disappear as I approach the last turn at the end of the race-- the car they give you is pretty fast.

I think it is also supposed to give you the illusion of speed-- I don't really care for it.

OKay.. How do you turn it off? I remember that you could turn off the stupid effect in Vice I believe.

You can't turn it off...and if you cán't drive with blur, then don't drive sports cars and motorbikes...or drive slowly/slowdown when blur sets in.

Vice City didnt had it, and more of that on 90mph isnt that much of speed.

I dont think the blurrying is to compensate for buildings needing to be rendered or anything. I was on a freeway and the vehicles were comen at me blurred and i stopped quickly and they were fully rendered and no extra buildings were added when i stopped.

I like the blurryness. I would think it is extremely hard to remove as something like that is going to be hard coded into the exe.

Personally, I like the effect; it doesn't cause problems and it looks good. An option to disable the effect would be a good idea though.

Personally I hate that stupid warp speed effect. They give you powerful, high end sports cars, freeways and long country roads to drive them and even a desert, then screw it up by distorting the view.

I have noticed that as your driving skill increases, the warp speed effect doesn't seem to be as bad. It just takes FOREVER to increase driving skill.

It is a neat effect, but like Max Payne2's bullet time, it gets on your nerves and can make
gameplay difficult.

At least you could turn it off in MP2, and I'd love to turn it off in SA.

An option for the old camera style would be nice, too. having to constantly reset my camera
higher up and the game slams it down gets old, fast. If I put the camera in a spot, leave it there.

Hell, the blood ring is hard enuf as is, playing games with the camera does not help at all.

Try using the cars fly cheat with the shoot while driving cheat and see how it is when flying a car. The car will flicker back and forth. If you think the blur is annoying you don't want to tke it off. It is hard to make your car drive when it is moving back and forth.

Its not that bad, its mostly there to complement the new Nitro feature.

And the thing your referring to in Vice City was trails which is different to the speed blur, it made everything have these trail like effect.

Has nothing to do with loading textures. You fly aircraft a heck of a lot faster and it doesnt have a blur effect. It was just a design decision. Not one I agree with, they should have given use a choice. Like with the cameras. A choice between old school cams and the new system. But we are "just" the customer.

Yeh, a sense of speed is what it's supposed to give.

I agree with the ones who like it, I think the effect is awsome. I get a much more "real" sense of speed now than I ever had in VC.

I havent played a lot of racing games so I dont have that much to compare with, but GTA:SA is the game that gives me the most "speed kick" of all the ones I have tried. Some of the cars can go insanely fast!

Playability should *never* be sacrificed upon the altar of realism. If it spoils gameplay, it should be dumped or optional.

But what spoils gameplay for one person may not for another - it's purely subjective.
