What does Vista have in place of the dxdiag tool?

I found this somewhere else:

QUOTE
Windows Vista audio stack does notsupport hardware acceleration (precisely
because of issues on Windows XP that required turning it off more often than
not).

And here:

QUOTE
You see, they cut out the DirectSound layer in Vista, and thus any games that rely on DirectSound for hardware-accelerated sound will be reduced to software acceleration.

I don't have answers, other than having a dual-boot of Vista/XP and installing games on XP. Until Microsoft comes up with a solution in Vista SP1, those people are SOL.

It'd be good to keep these audio fixes updated for Vista, so SA can still be played.

Okay I've tried a lot of things mentioned in this thread but I still keep encountering loss of sound. Its usually caused by rain/rainstorms as it clashes with other background sounds. After this point my sounds start stuttering but nothing I can't handle. Then after a couple of car changes my sound disappears completely (besides the radio).

Things I've tried:

Updated Realtek drivers
Installed new EAX .dll
Updated to the latest patch
Changed Direct X acceleration - This makes my sound crackle

I can't really try the downgrading of Direct X because other games require me to play with 9.0c. Any other suggestions? I wish Rockstar had an option to turn off this EAX stuff, its blatantly part of the problem. I'm on Win XP SP2

Does this information also fix the same issue with RealTek HD Audio devices?

My only problem, and I have XP and I have Realtek HD sound, is that I cannot get the user radio to remember the MP3's in the folder! When I start a new game I always have to scan again, and if i have it set to radio, I can just go to the save screen in my safe house come back out to the car and I have lost it again! I am not a big fan of hip hop anf gangsta music, so my User radio is very important!

Anyone come across his problem?

I've actually posted on a seperate thread. It's been fine the last week but in the last 3 days any time I go near and get into a car the sound crackles and continues to. I've just bought GTA:SA on steam so it's latest version. I've done everything I can from that list and the noise is driving me crazy.
After testing just now it crackles as soon as I load a game. sad.gif

Hey, I've read through all of these posts and I haven't seen anybody who's got my problem.

I just installed the game about a week ago and I've been playing nonstop with no problems. And then all of a sudden today my audio is out of sync, but only in the cutscenes.

I've tried adjusting the acceleration level, downloaded the patch, and just about all of the other simple fixes that worked for other people. None of them have worked for me. I even reinstalled the game yet the problem remains. The sound works fine everywhere else in the game, it's just out of sync in all of the cutscenes. And the sound works fine in every other program on the computer, so I think it's a problem with the game.

The problem is, I'm playing on my roommate's computer and he's out of town for the weekend. That being the case, I don't know his hardware and can't post it. All I know is we've been running the game at top graphics for the past week without a hitch, and then suddenly today everything falls apart. If there's a way I can fix this without having to update drivers or anything, that would be great. I'd feel better if I didn't have to download anything or update his computer without him knowing.

The audio in cutscenes goes out of sync only if you turn off the sound hardware acceleration. Make sure it's at the highest level. Also, try deleting the gta_sa.set file from the San Andreas User Files folder.

Also... Did the computer automaticly update its own drivers.

Were any programs added/deleted? or otherwise updated.

Any mods running?

lastly, was the reinstallation from the DVD or another source.

have found a solution, that the problem with the Rain/Thunderstorm bug triggers cordless one and for all times!.His works 100%

okay, lets go:

download follow files:
-SASMemstreamFix2.0
-Download the SALimitAdjuster(2007)from Alexander Blade

replace the old Vorbisfile.dll and Vorbishooked.dll with the from SASMemstreamFix2.0
starting SALimitAdjuster and Open the gta_sa.exe , now try save the Limits, and have fun.

Note:
tested with 1.0us!
that works to 100% for all Guys! (no matter what kind of sound card^^)
i have long Days and Nights testing!

At this time I have to put a big thank you to express to the developers for the great tools,

I have a similar problem as you, but what makes mine REALLY strange, is that I will get the last sentence or phrase from the cutscene.

All other sounds work, and work admirably at that. No issues with rain.

I am running on the PC, with Window Vista x64.... better yet... here's my DXdiag.

Hate to post something so large with no mini-scroll option....

EDIT:
I have tried to patch it but for some reason I got a brazilian version. I also get no radio, but I do get my own uder tracks in it.

Not sure if this has happened to anyone else but..

When you change the hardware acceleration in dxdiag and run san andreas, you may experience screen glitches to total frozen game including the looped sound being played

Changing hardware acceleration from basic to Full(basically do reverse steps on sound tut. fix), the glitching had stopped but then you just get random crashes, plus the sound problem gets back. (Apparently this may point to anyone using emu2k.dll for sound driver)

I scanned and came to the conclusion that the game is not made to be run in dolby 5.1.

System specs - nforce2 audio chip set with soundstorm.

Fix - set the speaker numbers to two channels (2 speakers) in nvidia mixer.

Stopped all sound scratches, pops, random car horns, rain sound bug, odd music mp3 encoding and scrambling, sound played smooth.

I love this game, to much to need surround.

1.5 yr old bump.

Sorry players. It turns out my hopes were high and while I tried to help, it was only a matter of time until the audio interference returned. My problem was not solved. I am waiting on return communication from R* and maybe some stickers to tag patrol vehicles with. Thanks anyways.

E-MU 0404: No sound at all. Windows XP.

Took me several months to resolve this problem. In the meanwhile I installed a virtual soundcard and played with a lag.

This soundcard is an E-MU, but with EAX and any related gaming accelerations unavailable; the card instead uses its resources for hardware mixing of input channels.

The fix turned out to be simple. Start a windows media player window with any media file and pause the playback. Then launch the game with the player still open.

Should I run this game in Windows 98/Me compatibility mode? I have some audio issues, I can only hear spoken audio in cutscenes. Unfortunately the game doesn't detect my save files in this mode.

Okay, sound pops, clicks, dissappearing sound, sync errors and the like. Here are the threads. The first two in combination fixed all my problems, including sync, pops and audio-dropout.Try them all as you wish. Thanks to everyone who has contributed.First and formostRE-INSTALL or UPDATE DriversRE-INSTALL or UPDATE directXThen::EMULATED drivers fix (Works well if this is the problem)http://www.gtaforums...howtopic=194972From Overture(me)ADDENDUM TO EMULATED drivers fixDownload and install Creative's latest drivers manually. If it worked, dxdiag should identify your driver as "ctaud2k.sys." I am using an SB Live! 5.1, and it may be different for other cards.I don't actually remember the name of the incorrect MS driver, but it was something like emu2k.sys. If that driver is listed in dxdiag, nothing you do to the registry will help. You can change the registry values all you want, but if it's still running the MS-provided dll, you are running emulated sound. With thanks to SuperSocialist.DOWNGRADE EAX.DLL to 3.0.6.6 (Works well)http://www.gtaforums...howtopic=194664Hotlink to replacement file: http://webzila.com/dll/2/eax.zipLink to search (type eax.dll) http://www.webzila.com/?wz=dllFrom LappysCredit to Qjimbo (sorry dude) post: Original thread Link to Alternative OLDER EAX.dll Link to original eax.dll (if it makes it worse and you forgot to backup)Newer EAX.dllThanks to MafCHECK SPEAKER CONFIGhttp://www.gtaforums...howtopic=195133From WestsidebudFor NFORCE-BASED boards with realtek audio - REALTEK AUDIO DRIVER REPLACEMENThttp://www.gtaforums...&f=137&t=195505Scroll down to Sound Fixes/Tips for details.Direct link to realtek drivers (dont pick 64 bit unless you have XP 64): http://tinyurl.com/808gFrom GoogleSta's Technical FAQ.Another link to similar fix for nForce HereFrom RS BowsWIN98 Compatibility mode fixhttp://www.gtaforums...howtopic=194930From DiscaciateDOWNGRADE DIRECT-X to 9.0BRemove 9.0c using Direct X eradicator 2.0 Link: http://www.dpostill....ads/dxe2005.zipUpdate - DXE 2 doesn't support Service Pack 2, use this insteaddirectx happy uninstall 3.4: DHU 3.4From The-LoonI'm told 1.2 is more stable than 3.4, give it a go:DHU 1.2Cheers to Neu_LyfADDITIONAL DX FIXBiohazard76 reported that he fixed an audio issue by installing directx8.1 over the top of 9.0c without downgrading. Could work as a last chance effort guys, don't discount anything.DOWNGRADE ACCELLERATION LEVEL (Last Resort)http://www.gtaforums...howtopic=195008From Jh00Some people have said that downgrading the accelleration level should be the first thing to try. The only reason that I put this as last resort is that I believe the game should have been created to work properly using the hardware the way it was designed to be used, rather than cutting down the features that are enabled. Sorry if you disagree, this is just my ethos.MISSING SOUNDS: like ambient etc it was pointed out by one user (sorry, can't remember who, PM me) that setting his SB Live card to quadraphonic worked for him.CRACKLING SOUND: Walpurgis points out that he gets consistantly crackling sound only this game and battlefield 2 demo. This suggests that the game-libraries are not mature, so the eax.dll method above may have some effect, and then possibly the dx downgrade as well.Don't forget to test with dxdiag to make sure the settings haven't been changed incorrectlyPost your additional fixes here.Peace.

Please update the links! I can not find the eax file anywhere.

Since that person has not been around for 10 years I doubt there will be any updates of links.
I suggest a simple GOOGLE search.
