I think that, when the forums are down information should be posted on GTANET, explaining what's going on, why they are down and what will happen when they come back - this is for major downtime, not just the page miss here and there.
So, what do you think? Should the forum information be posted on http://gtanet.com/news . I think so. - Luke.

In most cases, by the time someone posted on gtanet that the forums were down, they'd be back up. And if the whole network goes down where do they post it?

I personally think that this would be a waste.

Yeah, but many people visit the forums. If people know what's going on, they'll stop trying. I mean when they had the server change, it would be easier for the admins to post on GTANET when to expect the forums back again. - Luke.

When the forum was experiencing server problems they replaced the forum home page with a page on the information about what was happening. I think they should just do that if any problems happen again. It is a good idea.

I know, and they can do that when possible, but it won't be possible to post on the website, if it's down. - Luke.

Well we'll be having a newb influx shortly (it's already begun to a degree) what with the SA:PC release. If they come online looking for a GTA forum and are greeted here with an error message or blank white screen they'll likely go elsewhere and maybe not come back (yes, even despite our obvious superiority over the other GTA forums). A few words about why the server the down and an estimation of when it might be up again would be nice - it was done when they thought the memory was at fault so I imagine it isn't too difficult to do.

(Newbs are a good thing, by the way)

Sometimes. But yes people have got to agree this site is far superior to many others. Although like you said people if presented with many white pages and server problems are likely to go elsewere. But hopefully the staff will have all of the problems ironed out within a few days. Tank says that there are only a few minor problems that he knows about now. And i suppose newbs are ok but we all started out as newbs at one point.

In which way?

Newbs are good because everyone started out as a newb, and some of them have turned out to be really good members that have stayed here for years. Just because they're new here doesn't mean that they suck.

Noobs can be here for years and still be noobs. And noobs suck, no offense Luke2004.

I'm not a noob... am I?

I know that, but sometimes, when the noobs are filling up the san andreas forums with locked topics, it's not a good thing, and something should be done to sort it. confused.gif

The fact the topics you say that are littering the forum are indeed locked, would suggest that something was done about it. The San Andreas forum is heavily moderated so that the noobs come and they learn how it should be done fairly quickly from their mistakes. The large amount of users SA attracts wont last too long, but those that do stay will quickly slot in with everyone else and the rules, and that's what noobs are good for.

What's a forum without it's members? Some new blood is always a good thing, even if the odd n00b shows up in the same wave.

I was a non poster for a great amount of time. Only some ocasional posts. I started to post in the San Andreas forums, and, as Barguast said, I learnt with my mistakes. He helped me wink.gif

And don't be so harsh with Luke. Maybe we have to invent a new name? tounge.gif It's a midplace between newb and noob. He's a noob, and mostly a newb, but he keeps trying.
