Lovely screens, but I've read that the draw distance is supposed to be 3 to 5 times greater than the PS2 version, but that doesnt; seem to be teh case in the long view screenshots that have popped up.

Sure, it's certainly higher, but not THAT much.

I can only assume that any show off scren would be taken with the gaem set to max detail, sin ce i see no jaggies they must use high FSAA. So you';d figure the draw distance woudl be maxed as well.

HAve we been fed lies?

Of course I'll get it in any case, it's just been bugging me. [COLOR=yellow]

You have right, Draw Distance is too big, Rockstar Games alwys little polish they screenshots. Look at the pre-release GTA:VC for PC screens - its the best example.

I think jesushumper meant that the screenshots don't appear like the draw distance is 4-5x farther, although they look like they do to me...

Draw distance looks pretty massive to me. Just look at this XBox screenshot:

That tall building in the background is like a kilometer away, and can't be seen on the PS2 until well past halfway to it from where the pic is taken. The PC version screens draw just as far, though the scale isn't as easy to distinguish as the above. Although this one looks rather impressive. Just look at the trees on the far side of the freeway junction...

I wish somebody could get a PS2 shot of that scene, for comparison.

Look just because they mention a specific figure doesn't mean it is going to be exactly the same, what it comes down to is that the draw distance will be so much better then PS2 and that's all I care about.

You're all forgetting that (on the PC at least) changing the draw distance is as simple as editing two files. The weather data and the binary IPL which controls level of detail.

Looks further than VC PC for sure...

It will be farther, but it does depend on what kinda system your running in the first place.

You want that comparison davew2040? Here ya go:

I took that screen through a connection straight from my PS2 to my camcorder to my PC. I did enter the really sunny cheat, too, to make sure that the smog/fog wouldn't be a problem in comparison. Compare to this:

Once you are done laughing at the PS2, bow to the PC tounge.gif

I'm glad that Rockstar are really trying to make a game that is in every way better than the PS2 version. Perhaps they would have done this same thing to VC, if the had put more devotion into the PS2 version than just one year at basically making a GTA3 with a bigger city and a couple extra features. Perhaps they thought that SA is truly worthy of being played in the highest quality possible.

Yeah, they could have just done a quick port and we would have still bought it, I think Rockstar are great for taking the time to get it looking so much better.

d8cam thanx alot fot that screenshot, its a bit better than the other one that wosn taken from the wrong angle. You can really do a proper comparison, I would have thought you would at least be able to see all of that first building, but the most I can make out is the dark shape of it in the fog. If I were to put the PS2 shot on one monitor and put the PC on on the other monitor for comparison, even my dog would be able to tell the difference and pick the PC screenie. In this thread ive seen the best comparison and the best way to show how the PC surpasses the PS2 graphics in every way, anyone who thinks that the PS2 one is better must be blind.

Don't forget the graphics are 4x better than they were on PS2 or VC.

With this comparison I am very satisfied with the new draw distance... unless the screenshots are just "false hope" like it happens with many games, but I doubt it.
I hope the game at the end will be like we have seen it. nervous.gif
