[WIP] Grand Theft Auto: Vendettas, part/total conversion (vice)

see the "part"
depending on the interpretation. its adding islands, and editing and expanding the existing ones. also new textures and missions.
not a TOTAL coversion as such, but it is a major one. sorry to have missled you.

Well, i'm learning to map (i can copy and drag objects, woo), i can't model 'cause i don't have the patience and always go tits up with texturing.. so all i can do is piss about with some of the .dat files and what have you.

...and textures, not really that great am i?

Count me in. I just started modifying GTA Vice City this weekend, so I'm new to some of these tools. I used to mod games like Quake, Dark Forces, and Half-Life. Generally, I'm pretty cynical about these Total Conversion things, I'm sure we all agree that most never get very far past a website, a few models, and some concept art.
But the thought had crossed my mind a few days ago that 'GTA Vendetta' would be a really good name for a GTA game. And then I see this post here and you get the rest.
I'm very good with photoshop, it' part of my work, so I can at least offer you texture work. The texture on the player model looks good. I like the face. I'm a little rusty on modelling... probably really rusty. I'd also really like to help you develop the story. I don't want to step on your toes or anything, but I'd be happy to help.

damn you irony! when we have three texturers, more want to join. meh why not. PM me confirmation, and what u can bring to this mod. if your requested job is suitable, your in.
i dont care if your "rusty" u cant be any worse than me so c'mon in and have a go.

the more the merrier(and quicker to finish)
plus we can have allocated jobs - rvdvit is boss of peds, etc

Hey man, that looks like some awesome stuff, I can make the mafia, but can someone tell me this.

When I'm model swapping, do I just put a model (That was already in Vice City) over the one I wanna replace it with?

If not, tell me how. (I know how to do the textures)


Also... are the DFF file names the same as their TXD names? (for peds)


Tell me this stuff as soon as possible, because I wanna get started soon.

@ RvdVit - if u want to replace Texture.txd and dff with New.txd and dff, assuming 1 isnt a CS model the other norm, just replace em. shuld work

the dff/model name is the same as the texture name, with exceptions. some models do not have specific textures assigned to them. Peds? i think so. look for one, note the name, look for the dff.

@ Jamz - The jamacians are only an idea as of yet. Even if we decide not to feature them in the game, there will be a mission or two where u encounter them. (remodelled ped spawned multiple times.

Charecter info. (dont laugh.)

You/ Player. Xiao Chan-Li. A triad "errand boy" who gets stuff done. He does not know of his family as he was raised on the street and by the triads. He had no name, and the one he wears was given to him by Lee hong(triad boss)

instead of cutscenes, i plan to display txds of stills to aid the story

The story (detail). You have been assigned by lee hong to keep an eye on the Yakuza crimelord, Kenji Mishima. Mysterious deal planned. In the mall owned by the yakuza, Kenji is shot by an SMG from the balcony. He also fires at you. You run up as he runs off and you find a peice of paper. Yakuza security see you running from scene(gameplay--> ) You chase hitman through upstairs casino, to the car park where he steals a pickup. u chase in a sedan (???). the exits are blocked so chase leads into casino. cars crash to mall and outside again. Pickup escapes as you are totaled. yakuza find u and try to kill you. you escape.

thats mission one. general story:

after hit, yakuza hate u and hunt u down ---> clashes. Peice of paper had address leading to drugs drops (hidden packages). U take refuge in chinese turf. eventually, after working for triads for a few mission, you meet a courier
who has delivers drug drops (HP). You tail him to mafia turf. You tell chinese leader that u think mafia killed yakuza. Yakuza agree to meet you in open space (beach airport). here they are killed by mafia and you are captured. (this is where Jet Li stuff starts).Yakuza think the meet was a setup and want u dead even more.
Weaponless, you have to fight the way out of the mafia mansion, finding exits blocked. You meet and team up with 2 yr prisoner, <some japanese name>. both fight to heli pad and steal heli copter, while escaping, heli is shot by gun from rof(like matrix 1) and you have to fly in "drunk mode" with very sensitive sterring. u crash land in country area and you wake up in shack. Aiding your recovery is a aunty poulett style lady. She says u can get any drug (adrenaline, armour, health) from her shack any time assuming you do her a favour - RASTER BLASTER mission. After this, you return to the triads turf, trying to proove your innocence. u track down your mate from the mansion...
hmm is a branching story possible?

A, you take over yakuza in a Tekken style show down with yakkuza boss.
B, you climb ranks of triads and become #2. leader is killed by hitman from mall. u wage war with mafia.
story from on in, wars, defend, attack, random jobs........never ending?

Hey man I'm loving the mod man. Its like a movie game. My other half my split very Upset can't get his mod done so i guess he can't post. GTA:National Hitman, GTA:Vandettas, and the Myriad islands mod are three mods i wanna see. Hey i'm a screen writer. Not professional but i've been writing for years.

im really hoping we can make a branching story like true crime to keep the variety. also, instead of cutscenes, we might feature stills and explain the story over that. ( MIGHT) like tekken 4! lol

Looks promising. and a simple retexture would be easy. might even be able to use the GTA3 textures!

we just need brownie to sort out his problems with Vice and get a map going! lol
Weapons. hmmm that is a good idea. Obv, we'll keep the katana and the mac (i love em). ideas:

change BAT to large chinese bamboo fighting stick thingy (dunno name)
how about throwing stars? this poss?

any ideas to bring to the table?
btw ive change story to tie in with gta3!
