Ok, there's a bit of confusion over what's correct and what isn't. Hopefully I'll clear it up now, although I'll probably get it wrong myself. tounge2.gif

The sig size checker works correctly on the default GTAnet2k4 1.3 skin when viewed on the profile screen.

The accuracy of it under the other skins and when viewing the sig edit screen cannot be guaranteed (yet! Obviously these will be fixed when an admin finds the time). To be doubly sure that your sig is correct, open your profile screen in a separate window, and refresh it after you've made your sig changes. It's a pretty new system, so hey, you gotta expect a few niggles with it. tounge.gif

The problem is now solved. All skins should show green/red appropriately. Keep in mind the coloration is meant for a quick reference. You are still responsible for making sure your own sig is within the generous 500 x 150 boundaries smile.gif

The 'Edit Signature' page in your control panel shows a green box around your sig. This box will display red lines if your sig is breaking the 500x150 limit. If the box is all green, that means you're ok. If it shows red however, then your sig IS breaking the limit, and no amount of crying and complaining will change that fact. Remember, If you see red, it's too big.

The bars around your signature will not turn completely red - the area you are allowed to use will stay green at all times but if you go over the limit, the space that you are not allowed will be shown in red. You have red on the bars surrounding your signature, so it is over the limit. wink.gif

So are we supposed to ignore the borders or trust them completely? If we cannot trust them completely then there's no point having the system at all.

You're "supposed to" make sure your signature fits inside the limits. As Demarest said, all the known problems with the measuring bars have been fixed, so you'd be fine with "trusting them completely".

How does it feel to have your silly topic locked, Dem? I can't remember when I last had a topic locked...I guess that means I'm better than you. Mwhuaha! So, anyway, what was it that started this argument?

Oh, I noticed that the width limit isn't working correctly. Because the text gets wrapped automatically in the signature editing border, when it gets displayed in topics it doesn't wrap and so takes up more width. Is this a problem, as it means thier signature spills outside the 500px limit, or is it OK because it's just text and it still fits inside the green border when previewed?

The topic was locked not on its merit, but rather due to the abuse it received from those who took it as an invitation to flame. I'm not like you, so I didn't take the locking personally as it wasn't intended that way. Sorry, that means I can't answer your question. But with any luck, we can go on from here and respect this important pinned thread by knocking off the off-topic. You can go ahead and get your last words in if you'd like. I'm out.

Don't know if it's of any use, but here's some code I wrote for my (phpBB) site; some people had excessive image sizes so I had to do something about it...

In my page's header:
CODE
<script type="text/javascript">
function setImageDimensions(gotImage)
{
 if(gotImage.width > 300) {
gotImage.width = 300;
 }
}
function changeImageDimensions(gotImage, type)
{
 if(gotImage.width > 300 && type == 'out') {
gotImage.width = 300;
   return;
 }
 if(type == 'over') {
gotImage.removeAttribute('width');
 }
}
</script>

And for the [img] tags, this is the phpBB code, I haven't played with invision to know what the code equivalent of this is.
CODE
<!-- BEGIN img --><img src="{URL}" onload="setImageDimensions(this)" onmouseover="changeImageDimensions(this, 'over')" onmouseout="changeImageDimensions(this, 'out')" border="0" /><!-- END img -->

At the top, click on My Controls. This screen will have lots of options for you to do many things. One you'll notice is "Edit My Signature". On that screen, you'll have a text field and forum buttons to design any text, image, or mixed signature. When you're done, just make sure you're all green and you're set smile.gif

How about the fact that your sig was reported and rather than warn you (since it was the teensiest of infractions and a simple fix would fix it), I PMed you. Then you came online, left, but no sig edits? In other words, you knew it was off and you ignored it. So your sig got disabled like everybody else's mad.gif
